Kicking off the X-Cam

Yesterday, MadDrB and I met at the Game Vault to pit my Republiqe of France forces against his Blazing Sun fleet for the first few games of this fall’s DWVA X-Cam. For those of you who have never heard of it,  the X-Cam is a set of  campaign rules that are designed to allow players to link their games together in a very simple and easy way. These rules were invented and refined by Russ and Craig of the D6 Generation podcast, and you can find them over on Craig’s blog. Since we were just starting out, we decided to play 3 Recon missions, which are limited to 400 points. Given the small game size, we were able to squeeze in 3 games in an afternoon! Read on to see out it turned out.

Storm of Steel

Storm of Steel

Over the weekend, my new copy of Storm of Steel, the latest campaign supplement for Dystopian Wars, arrived. After having spent a couple of days going over it, I think I can safely say that Storm of Steel has surpassed the previous supplement, Hurricane Season, in just about every way!

War At Sea: IJN vs USN, 200 Points

One of the fun parts of moving is getting to meet new gamers at your destination! This is just what happened a while back when I met up with fellow Foruminian Sun-Tzu for a game of War at Sea at Tower of Games in Chesapeake, VA. We settled on playing a 200 point IJN-USN battle, with no other restrictions.

My Experience at the DWVA Fall Event

My Experience at the DWVA Fall Event

MadDrB has already shared his observations on the event as the organizer, so I thought I would chip in a few words as one of the participants! This is just kind of a few general thoughts; I’ll try to get some reports on the three games I played put up later.

DWVA Autumn Event 2012

After having to reschedule our 2nd Annual Autumn Event in September due to a big Magic card release, we finally met on Sunday, October 28th for our seasonal tournament at the Game Vault in Fredericksburg, VA. Half a dozen past attendees couldn’t make the date because of work schedules, moving, or–at the last minute–to prepare for approaching hurricane “Sandy”. But 7 of the original 14 registered players showed up, and with some adjustments we made the format work so all players could participate in each round, and we had the underdog team come out on top after playing and scoring a very good final round.

Dystopian Wars: RoF vs FSA, 1000 pts

Dystopian Wars: RoF vs FSA, 1000 pts

Landlubber (aka Greg) and I met up recently at the Game Vault in Fredricksburg, VA for a little Dystopian Wars action. This time we decided to play with 1,000 point naval core forces, with me running my French and Greg sticking to his Americans. We also incorporated a few of the rules from the Hurricane Season campaign book, such as the national commodores, deployment orders, and scoring through Campaign Points.

Read on to see how it turned out!

I am pretty excited about this; Dystopian Wars podcasts, or really any naval themed gaming podcasts, are few and far between. Here’s wishing Adam and Brad many  more great episodes!

Dystopian Wars: FSA vs COA Air Battle

Dystopian Wars: FSA vs COA Air Battle

So I met my friend Ken this evening for a little DW, and we decided to play an all-aerial game.  We each fielded a Sky Fortress, a large flyer, a squadron of medium flyers, and two squadrons of tiny flyers (1 fighter squadron & 1 dive bomber squadron for me, 2 fighter squadrons for him).

On paper, FSA flyers are pretty delicate compared to the CoA flyers.  All of his ships had shield generators, and none of my FSA flyers carry generators of any type.  Plus, FSA flyers have a lot of rocket AD, but this is usually largely wasted on Covenant ships due to having to get through AA fire AND shields.
