« on: June 07, 2025, 04:48:41 pm »Going to give an upvote to Javelin, or as he sometimes calls himself, National Cheese Emporium. High quality STL sculptor, and with little to no issues with printing, he ran an excellent service on Shapeways Marketplace ( Much mourned) and now on Cults3D and CGTrader.
He is reliable as a seller, and will even take suggestions - He upscaled one of his 3mm models to 6mm on my request.
I don't have any of his Imperial Skies items, but I have had my eye on his civilian ships for some conversion potential for DW.

« on: June 07, 2025, 04:44:20 pm »I confess, it seems to be getting further and further form 2.5, and that alone is a big Red Flag for me.
Simplicity is a tricky thing to manage - especially when we live in a world where thinking seems to be an anathema - and while a certain amount of simplification is desirable, games often end up as complex variants of "Paper Scissors Rock"/Roshambo rather than an actual war game. 3.0 was already simplified from previous incarnations, and that was half the problem ( All ships of all sizes use the same turn template? Really?) for many players in my group.
Still, trying to be optimistic, I suppose the doing away with weapons arcs might help some people with the game nevertheless that's really an important feature of naval and other fleet combat games, and I don't see how exactly it will work and still retain the feel of naval combat in all honesty. But if they make it work, then great.

Wargames vault has just informed me of a new item, the rules for "Ironclads of Ferrosia" and steampunk-ish naval game that has printable minis available. Anyone heard of these before?

Impressive looking token holders, I must say.
As for your analysis of your progress, I feel there is a parameter you might have missed.; How often does your collection get utilized for one of its purposes, or in blunt terms, how frequently do you play?.
Having limited resources, including space, I have a personal rule; For my forces, any army/fleet that I do not use at least once a year gets moved to a list for disposal - Usually sale, sometimes gifting to other keen players. Pragmatically, this makes more space available, and b can bring in funds to allow me to explore new options ( Read; Buy new toys for a new game or update previous forces.
). In practice, this also keeps me flexible as I make a regular shift from force to force, rules to rules and play style to play style, so I keep mentally fresh.

That seems to be a pattern with Warcradle's approach to DW. Some extremely well-thought-out sets of miniatures, with a highly open-ended rule book and game support. It falls somewhere between the Spartan approach and the current GW "Spoon-feeding" tactic; I know there's a bit of frustration among players about some of that, especially the "living ORBATS" that are updated every few weeks, as it feels a little unfinished and chaotic. Mind you a few players love 3.0 for precisely that reason, so different strokes, as they say.
Then again, I am loving some of the new ships.

Very tempting, however I made my first KS backing in years, and it was successful ( I financed the Stork Heavy VTOL Lifter from Kore Games, and received three at a third the price of the main release - Pretty chuffed : and since I run at about 50% success rate I think i will with massive regret, pass on this.

The sets are also nice "joint buys" for two players to split up after purchase.
