The ships look great!

Where do you get your 1/1200 scale aircraft?

thanks.  I generally get both GHQ ships and the Cap Aero aircraft from Magister Militum in the UK.  They also have some aircraft in their own range.   I did get some Cap Aero aircraft from Strange Cargo Games in the US but their website hasn't worked for me for a long time.  Sadly no one I know of stocks either in Australia.

Thanks fellas
Please tell me you have the Ark Royal...
Indeed I do.  She was one of my first Panzerschiffe ships.

These look very nice too! I find it impressive that you are collecting the OOB for specific engagements; that is something I have yet to delve into.

I figured that collecting specific battles would be easiest, that way I would be able to game, as the collection grew.  I've stuck with the concept fairly well, except for particular ships that I really wanted and spares, extra destroyers from the GHQ packs for instance.

My force Z ships.  The Prince of Wales, Repulse, destroyers Electra, Express, Tenedos and the Australian Vampire.

And some Cap Aero 1/1200 Buffalos from 453 squadron RAAF. on call to provide air cover.  Unfortunately called too late.

Still need to order the Japanese aircraft before I can refight the battle.

Here are another set of my 1/2400 scale ships.  Those present at the battle of Denmark Strait. Second pic has a 1/72 scale figure which I used to show size at the time.
Mixture of GHQ and Panzerschiffe
Front row  Norfolk, Suffolk, the destroyers Electra, Echo, Achates, Anthony, Antelope and Icarus and the Prinz Eugen.  Second row Prince of Wales, Bismarck and Hood.

Prince of Wales (in her Pacific camo I know, but it'll have to do)

Hood

The heavy cruisers Suffolk and Norfolk

And the destroyers, these didn't do too much as the heavy sea state meant they couldn't keep up.

And Bismarck and Prinz Eugen

Nice.  I like the escort carrier based on a merchant, like they did in wet navies

Very nice.  As others have said the flight deck looks great.  I like the Bismarck style camouflage  markings too.

That looks great.  I have successfully resisted Dystopian Wars models thus far, being a member here and seeing models like this may make it some what harder.

GHQ are certainly my preferred brand.  I like how they make up into nice little models as well as gaming pieces.   I am however happy to use other brands.
For WW2 and WW1: I have GHQ and Panzerschiffe.
Modern: GHQ and Sea Wulf
Pre WW1:  Hallmark/Figurehead and Tumbling Dice.
I've been collecting them for a while now so have quite a few done and many more in the to do pile.  I'm a memebr of a couple of gaming forums, but its nice to see one devoted to naval gaming.

Very, very nice! Did you free hand the markings on the Nimitz's flight deck, or are they decals? Also, do you actually use these as gaming pieces, or are they just for display?

Thank you.  The markings on both Nimitz and Minsk are decals.  The helipads on the others are freehand.  Eventually they will be used in games, though probably not as much as the WW2 vessels.
As  for Hornet, I wanted to show her for the Doolittle raid, so here she is now the B-25s have shown up and been painted next to an Australian 10c.

Very nice. Are they all one piece?
Thanks
The subs are one piece as are destroyers and smaller for WW2 and WW1.  With the moderns Destroyers and such are kits like the larger ships.
Here is a pic of HMNZS Achilles light cruiser from WW2 in pieces to show the kit.

And here is my USS Hornet with a ruler to show general size.  I usually use coins for size, but I don't know of others are familiar with Australian coins.

Thought I'd post up some pics of my US carrier battle group and Soviet fleet.  All are 1/2400 GHQ,  Currently have another Soviet destroyer on the slips.  They are just ment to be a couple of generic fleets for Shipwreck.

Roll Call / G'day
« on: April 30, 2012, 04:22:03 am »
G'day all from Downunder.  Have been gaming for a while and naval has been my preferred type of games.  Lately however naval miniatures are the only gaming pieces I have wanted to work on at all.  I have mainly historical stuff, though one day want to start some fantasy/sci fi style fleets.  My main interest is 1/2400 in many eras and 20mm WW2 coastal.  Pretty good to find  a forum devoted to naval gaming.
