At the most recent Forgeworld seminar, they ended on a short teaser that Aeronautica Imperialis will return.
I have tempered excitement for this as I really enjoyed the last iteration of the game and still play it. However, I am also concerned that scale, rules, etc will change in a way i will not enjoy. Of course, nothing stops me from continuing to use my old stuff, but you know how it goes.....
If you have no idea what Aeronautica Imeprialis is..... this might help:

Hints from GW and FW are about as informative as a dictionary thet translates Dutch words into Dutch.
Mind you, given some recent discussion in other quarters, FW returning all the Epic scale items to production would be more welcome than rain in Alice Springs, and would make for an interesting time in the marketplace.

I think more starfighter-type games would be a good thing. Nothing has really been able to seriously challenge X-Wing for the throne in terms of popularity and number of players. I do think that BSG-Starship Battles is a better game (at least, better than X-Wing 1.0...I’ve not played 2.0). I also had hopes for Shattered Void from White Dragon Miniatures (cool models and a good ruleset), but the Kickstarter is two and a half YEARS late with no fulfillment date in sight yet.

Looking at the GenCon news here, that seems to be the way GW are taking this.
Depending on the scale ( Hard to judge in these pictures ), this could be great news for the Epic crowd, though i'd be shocked itf these aren't scaled more for the new Adeptus Titanicus minis.

Very interesting. I’m not usually a fan of hex-movement games but I’ll reserve judgement til I give it a try. Models look beautiful however!
-
It does look promising as never got to get into the first game, got the books still thought.
-
I will buy. I am a huge fan of the original.
That being said, it looks like the Thunderbolts have a new variant with a Vanquisher/punisher cannon attached to the front.
I wonder if it will be a ground attack variant?
-
Some of the new photos look like it will be hex based now.
-
Yes, not sure how I feel about that, will have to give it a try first. But DANG the models look so nice...
-
Looks like it will be out with the starter box.... next week all ready!
They also confirmed that the Thunderbolt with the Avengers was a new type.... Thunderfury.... or some such.....
-
Upscaled to matcvh the Titans, I see.
Not keen on that myself.
-
Not impressed with the Upscale either. It is not compatible with my old stuff. :(
Also, www.aeronauticaimperialis.com has a nice "How to Play" video by GWs themselves.
-
Anyone pick up any of the planes or starter for this?
I have a few other obligations before I buy in. I never really had much of an Imperial air wing.
-
Probably will but I’d like to try a game first. At a bare minimum I’ll buy some of the minis, they’re just too cool to pass up. Plus I’ll likely never purchase their 28mm equivalents—too expensive. Easy E, sorry to hear they aren’t compatible with your old models! How much different is the scale?
-
I haven't bought any yet to confirm, but they look a lot bigger from what I can tell.
I could be wrong and will have a scale picture up when I get some.
Edit: Ash from GMG has a video up here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JEqM6F95SI&feature=youtu.be&t=2
He says the planes are 33% bigger at 8mm. :(

I saw the models in person finally tonight at Gamer's Haven in the Springs. They definitely are too big for playing in conjunction with Adeptus Titanicus. That being said, I don't know how you'd run the two games combined--AI uses hex movement and AT doesn't, and AT needs ground terrain, whereas that would just interfere with movement for AI.
All that being said...the models are DANG COOL. The Thunderbolts look sweet, and the level of detail, especially for the scale, is just this side of insane.
I want to give the game a try before I consider buying it--want to see how it plays. I also want to wait a bit and see how GW fleshes it out. I'm hearing that it will be fully supported and that they're going to release flyers for just about all the factions, so I'm cautiously optimistic. I also want to see what aftermarket accessories come out, specifically game mats...AI uses a 2" hex grid, which I don't think is very common, so it'll be interesting to see if a company like Tablewar releases AI-specific mats.
At a bare minimum I'll likely buy some of the models to paint. Because I really need more models to paint. ::)

As did I at my next to local games store at the beach . . . . They are huge compared to Epic versions.

Cannot disagree there - they are superb minis, both detail and style wise.

Oh really? 8) Since we are still in the wet side of spring, I'm not getting much doen here - Want to do some of mine? :D :P
-
Dude I have miniatures that I bought 7 years ago that I still haven’t painted. So... :-X
-
It was a tough choice, but I decided to stick with the scale I all ready have loads of stuff for. Maybe when (if) the range expands, I can be convinced to switch up, but right now I can't bring myself to do it.
-
Understandable. I might get into it later but I want to see how GW fleshes it out. The models are REALLY nice though.
