Title: Sails Of Glory: Prepainted Napoleonic Ships!
Post by: Ruckdog on February 20, 2013, 10:27:10 pm
Saw this pop up on TGN today:

I must say, this has my attention! I'm curious to see what these Pre-painted minis will look like, as well as what the price point will be. I might collect some just to have an age of sail fleet.

I remember reading about this a year ago, but just received a notice by email from Ares that it's finally on the way.  The starter box is going to have 4 ships--2 British and 2 French--so I guess the game is going to simulate frigate duels rather than full fleet actions, something I'm hoping to to see.  A few weeks ago I was part of a frigate duel game using the Close Action rules, and it still took more than 2 hours to resolve.  Written orders and simultaneous movement is realistic, but not much fun to play, so I'm looking forward to how they use movement cards for this game system.

And the ships should be relatively inexpensive.  Of course, they're plastic, but if the cost encourages more gamers to try age-of-sail gaming (like Ruckdog) then I'm all for it.

Well, for me the cost is a secondary concern to the fact that they are pre-painted. My painting time is now at a severe premium, so the more ways I can minimize the load, the better!

The Kickstarter is now up, with more pictures to boot:

Now I have to think about what level I want to join at...

Yeah, I jumped in at Captain as well, along with the $40 upgrade for the Victory and USS Constitution. Looking forward to getting my hands on them this fall!

I like what I've read in the articles about the rules posted on the Ares site:

Ares Games posted a video on Youtube covering how the combat mechanic works for Sails of Glory:

Well, the Kickstarter just ended, and it looks like it was a highly successful one! I can't believe all the free stuff I'm getting at the Captain level  8).

I waited until almost the last minute, but finally got in my pledge.

I won't see it in time to run a game at Historicon in July, but I'm pleased to see an age-of-sail game got so much attention.

Me too! I won't see mine until the Christmas timeframe, but I am still looking forward to getting them.
