Title: Christmas Naval Gaming Asks?
Post by: Easy E on November 26, 2018, 08:05:44 pm
As I was considering my Xmas list, I was curious what other Naval related gaming people have added to their own lists?

So far, I didn't really have any Naval Wargame items on it yet.

I've got nothing I want in visible range, save maybe the budget bandwidth to back the OAK AND IRON kickstarter.

Hmmm ... Kickstarter should really have a "Wishlist" function like Amazon does...

Are we talking stuff that's already available/on the horizon, or stuff that we WISH would happen?

Ah hell, I'll take a swing at both.

On my wish list for items already available: Nemo's War, from Victory Point Games. We reviewed it on the podcast a few episodes back and it looks fantastic.

On my wish list for naval gaming stuff that doesn't exist (yet): a set of modern naval warships in 1/3000 scale from Topside Minis. I picked up Rory Crabb's "Naval Command" modern ruleset a few months ago and I'm itching to give it a try, but I don't want to shell out the $$$ for the (admittedly very nice) GHQ modern ships. Topside Minis has said they haven't ruled out doing modern sets in the future, so there is hope!

Sticking my neck out, I'd like to see the remaining Egyptian and League of Crimson ships turn up in the next wave of Warcradle Classics. :D

More time to paint, have 19th century italians, and more 18th century AoS to paint, and to play with opponents other than myself.  /Jeff

@Covertwalrus, I couldn't agree with you more. Loved the look of those Egyptian ships.

@KazadHarri if Santa brings you more time to paint, let me know how you got that gift. Could use it myself.

For me, the big Christmas naval gaming items have to be the starter boxes for Cruel Seas and Battlestar Galactica!

Galactica was in the store on Tues night... I almost grabbed it, but I'm on pre-holiday/Christmas trip savings spending moratorium now. No impulse buys until after Santa :-)

It looked good though from a retail standpoint. Very "X-Wing" in package appeal, but even better since there's two of each

A trick I used recently was to simply move across country and leave my family at home for 5 months or so.  It does wonders for the painting time.... but kinda sucks in every other way.  :)

@Covertwalrus yes that would make for more painting time, but would definitely suck in pretty much every other aspect.

@Dakkar I have the starter set, got it last Monday at the Haven. I've been very busy since then and haven't had time to read through the rules completely, but I can tell you happily that it appears to NOT be a BSG re-skin of X-Wing. Once I get the rules figured out I'll be looking for some opponents to try it out. The miniatures are BEAUTIFUL.

Mark and I are meeting at Collectormania on Sunday the 23rd at 11 to give it a try. There are four starfighters in the starter set, so you’re welcome to come out and give it a go with us.

I'm in Pittsburgh for the week, so I'll have to catch you next year ;-)
