Title: 21 Oct
Post by: Ruckdog on September 26, 2012, 05:22:58 pm
Looks like I will have some time Sunday the 21st to get a game in if anyone is interested. I can do either E&E or The Game Vault, whichever works for you guys!  As for games, DW and FA are both in play; I doubt my Invasion stuff will be ready by that point.

I'm not working that weekend, so I'm game.  What about some Firestorm Armada?  I need some incentive to get my Sorylian fleet painted anyway, at least to some working degree (prime and drybrush to start, at least).

Sounds good! I'm anxious to get my Directortate fleet to the table, as I painted them almost 2 years ago and they have yet to fire a shot in anger  :(.

I can probably make it as well, although I don't play FA.  May just come watch.  Game Vault, I assume?

Yeah, that's what I was figuring. Don't worry, I'll bring my DW stuff along to; maybe we can get a game in if there is time ;).

Well, now I'm thinking about heading to NOVA to take up an invitation to playtest a fantasy game system, and I'm wondering if I can really do both things in the same day....

Cool Andy--will bring my DW stuff also.  Looking forward to it!

Well, if you can't, no worries. Greg and I can just play DW ;).

Works for me.  What time do you want to start?  I can be there at 1000.

I can be there early too. I will verify with the wife and make sure ;).

Alright! Things are all set. I will be at GV at 1000 on the 21st. Now, I know this is still a couple of weeks away, but I need to nail down what I am bringing as it will affect what I let the movers take and what I'm loading in the car. As I understand it now, I am just bringing my DW stuff since Aaron is going to a demo. Is that correct, guys?

Correct, I won't be there with my new Firestorm ships...  :(

Have fun playing DW!

No worries! Maybe some other time.

@Greg: What kind of game did you want to play? I was thinking it might be fun to try out a scenario from Hurricane Season, but I'm up for anything. You also mentioned that you would be interested in fighting my French, which is cool; it will give me a chance to try out that battle carrier!

Honestly, I'm up for whatever.  As long as I get to push little ships around the table and roll dice, I'm good.  I'm not familiar at all with the material in the campaign book.  So whatever you're up for is fine with me!

Alrighty, then. I'll take a look at my Hurricane Season book when I get back (Gwen and I have been out house-hunting all weekend) and see if I can find a good scenario for us to try. If I do, I'll post back about points, list construction limits, and the like. If not, we'll just set a points limit and go for it!

Okay, so after looking through Hurricane Season again, I'm thinking that maybe we would be better off just forgoing doing one of the missions. However, there are some interesting Nation-specific commodore rules and some neat deployment rules that I think it might be worthwhile trying out. The commodore rules give some different bonuses depending on the nation, such as re-rolling treacherous terrain tests or a critical hit table roll. The deployment rules allow players to divide their fleet up into sections, with one part in the normal 8" zone, a second part further up towards the middle of the table, and a third part that can flank by moving on to the board from either side edge. What do you think?

Also, how big of a game did you want to play? Since we are starting early, I was thinking we could do a larger game, say around 1,000 points.

That sounds good to me.  I didn't pick up Hurricane Season, so I'm not familiar with those options, but it should be fine.  1,000 points sounds good to me.  Looking forward to facing your Prussians again! (Although I'll probably regret saying that)

I was actually going to run my French, though I might be fielding a few models that aren't fully painted ;).

Yeah, I didn't think about that until after I had posted it.  I'm so used to thinking about Prussians when I play against you.  RoF is cool too.  But I'm going to play the special "Andy only gets half AD for everything" card in Turn 1.

Hee hee, turn one would be OK, given that long range shooting isn't RoF's strong pont  ;).

Oh, you misunderstand--that's a special G card (as in, the effects last during the entire game).
