Victory at Sea
« on: March 08, 2020, 07:37:53 pm »
1:1800 sounds a rather large scale.  Is this a new product or a recycled one?  I thought something like this came and disappeared a few years ago.

Warlord has been trying to push Naval warfare pretty hard lately.  I look forward to when a modern naval warfare game comes out!

I didn't think there was enough of us Naval types around to make it worth it!

I *think* this is a new product. I've heard a little grumbling on the interwebz about the scale...apparently it's 1/1800 which is out of scale for a lot of WW2 naval miniatures (although I think AA War at Sea is 1/1800).

Easy E, yeah, bit of a tidal wave (pun intended!) of naval games here recently. Cruel Seas, Black Seas, Oak and Iron, now this Victory at Sea on the horizon...not a bad time to be a naval wargamer!

They have it on their website in full glory now.

Should anyone be getting a copy no doubt readers will be interested in the subsequent observations.

Based on what I can see in the pre-order pics on Warlord's website, I think the names are on the base of each ship. No idea if they're on both sides, but they appear to be on at least one long edge.

Seems very specific! On one hand it saves the player from doing it but I guess if you want to field a sister ship you might need to file the name down or wait and hope for an alternate model.
The destroyers aren’t so unique

That's a really good point...I can only assume the folks at Warlord have thought about that. You're talking about fielding a few ships from the same class, right? Looks like for the destroyers they just have the class name on the side. In the starter box, the U.S. destroyers just say "Fletcher-Class Destroyer" on the side, not individual ship names. The larger ships have names though. Go to the Warlord store and select the starter box, mouse over the picture for close-ups and you'll see what I mean.

The German fleet set has three cruisers of the hipper class: each model is individually named.

Also this scouting rule is interesting: https://www.warlordgames.com/victory-at-sea-scouting-intelligence

Warlord just posted an update on their website:

https://www.warlordgames.com/warships-sighted-ready-torpedoes/

Looks like the release is getting pushed back to August due to COVID disruptions.

Also, they are including codes for free goodies in World of Warships for new WoWS players!

Looks like he’s working on models from the old range. I’m looking forward to what he does with the new models when they ship next month!

The game is shipping! My pre-order arrived at the house yesterday. I'll have some pics posted soon in the shipyard :).
