Aeronef Fleets for Various Games
« on: October 23, 2020, 01:52:01 pm »
Greetings,

I have been interested in flying warships for a while now, but I finally got off my butt to get some.  I ordered the Grand Fleet packs from Brigade for the French and British Fleet packs.  These are the older sculpts as Brigade is coming out with new ones.

In the Grand Fleet packs you get a lot of escorts such as Destroyers, Patrol Neffs, etc.    More than I need really.  So here is some photos of my French force....

A Destroyer and Light Cruiser test paint.

The French Fleet so far.  1 Battleship, 1 Heavy Cruiser, 2 Cruisers, 2 Light Cruisers, and 5 Destroyers of various classes.

Looks good. Are you going to be using Imperial Skies?

I have a few sets of rules, so I am sure a few will hit the table.

Aeronef (Proper)
Imperial Skies
Castles in the Sky

However my first focus is playtesting Castles in the Sky for Osprey.

I like the color selections! The light blue of the hull reminds me a lot of French WWI uniforms.

Did not think of that.   :-[

I was thinking, "What would camo for a flying battleship even look like?" I figured light blue would best disrupt their silhouette from the ground or parallel.  If you looked up from the ground, I felt like a light blue would be hardest to "see" clearly in a blue sky.

I have no idea it this is true.... but too late now!

It's still a good look either way :).

Here is a bunch of British escorts.  Again, they are the old school sculpts and not the fancy new ones.

Lots of escorts.  I went with a dark grey hull, darker brown "deck", and a light grey superstructure.  They stand out from the French fleet for sure as they turned out much darker.

Another brighter picture:

Now, I finished off the Cruisers and the Battle Cruisers. I think I have what I need for now, so I do not expect to have many more painting photos for a bit.

Hopefully, I can now move onto the Battle Reports.  Watch for those soon!

These are the old sculpts, which I like.

However, I think their new sculpts are even better!

I snuck two British Battleships from Brigade across the finish line before 2020.

I did not think I would need these, but the more games I played, the more I wanted some Battleship action.
