The Painting Year in Review--2015
« on: December 02, 2015, 11:59:33 am »
OK fellow naval wargamers, the end of the year is nigh upon us. Let's see what you got accomplished in 2015!

Before December 31st, post a few "group shots" in this thread of all the naval wargaming miniatures you completed this year. No matter if you painted a single model or an entire fleet, we want to see your work! You can mash them all together in one big group, naval ships with space ships, or break them up into fleets or genres--whatever works best for you. Feel free to tell us a little bit about what you painted. Also, post a shot of the one model (or squadron of models) that you're most proud of that you completed this year and tell us why it's your favorite. And, let us know what your painting resolutions are for 2016!

Nothing to win here except bragging rights and the envy of your fellow wargamers. I know we have a talented pool of painters here at MBS, so let's see what you've done!

Certainly! As an outgrowth of Firestorm Armada, I think Planetfall models can be included. I expect we'll be seeing a few more pics of Herr Hochmeister as well, yes?

No no no no no... Don't remind me of how much of a slacker I've been!  ;D

Sadly I've only painted the two squads this year :/

Of course I did paint like 2500 points of Black Templars... :D Including this little gem:

You know, because it is a gunship and all so that counts right... :D

+1 on the Directorate battleship, looks great. The Directorate is my next Firestorm fleet, I already have the models from the Overseers boxed set, will start painting them next year.

So, per the original instructions...what's your favorite of what you've painted? And any painting resolutions you want to share for 2016?

I primed a few dozen in 2015.

I will paint a few dozen in 2016.

I cannot commit to more for fear of the unknown.

Nice work.

I went back and looked at the dates on my pics, and realized that I've actually done a fair amount of painting this past year.

I did the Planets tutorial:

I painted my Aquan Dread:

I did a LOT of SRS tokens!

I finished up my Oroshan fleet, including another squadron of frigates not shown here.

I painted all of my Planetfall.......

Plus some other stuff I apparently never took pics of......

And I started on my Kedorians.

And last but not least, I painted up the Hochmeister!

Nice! I got a fair bit painted myself this year, though I will wait until I'm not posting from my phone to put all the pics up ;).

oops sorry Landlubber, I missed the extra bits there. First thanks for the nice comments guys. I don't have a lot to choose from, but I'm definitely happy with how the Judgement came out! As for resolutions... I'd like to get my RotO stuff painted and I have the other 3 escorts to finish still. I also have my Oroshan cruisers and a squad of Directorate heavy cruisers to paint... Oh and all of my planetfall stuff... Plus more Templars... Oh boy and some BFG I've been sitting on for years. I don't know.. :D I guess my resolution will be to finish my Directorate stuff though, I have quite a bit built up and it's a little time consuming so yeah. I'd like to go back and redo my finished stuff with the fleet marking, I've decided the winged shield will be the symbol for my Directorate company and it feels like a better fit then the different squadron markings I was doing before.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

What?!?  You expect an engineer to actually read ALL the instructions?

My favorite was originally the Aquan Leviathan, but I'm really liking how the Hochmeister turned out.  Resolution for 2016 is to finish up my existing French and CoA models for DW and finish my Kedorians for Firestorm.

It's funny...thanks to my job, having to move, and having kids, if you'd asked me how much I painted in 2015, I would have told you, "Not a lot." However, once I started looking back at it, I'm surprised by how much I actually accomplished!

Anyway, here we go:

New Prussians for DW:

A Dindrenzi Test Scheme:

New Terrans for FSA:

DW Objective Markers:

1:1800 WWII Warships:

A 1/350 Scale model of the USS SCRANTON as a presentation gift:

And last, but not least, my UNSC and Covenant test models:

Overall, I would have to say that my favorite of the bunch has to be the Sturmbinger sub I painted for DW:

Although, the Terran Dreadnought I painted is a close second ;).

For next year, I'm vowing to finish up the box sets I've got for DW, Planetfall, and Halo, and clear out the impressive number of DW blisters I've got 😀
