Dystopian Wars / Re: FSA New Aerial Box
« on: August 09, 2013, 04:09:48 pm »
There is some mighty suspect chatter on the Spartan forum under the aerial box set. Sadly I too am at work, so the site is blocked. I thought it may have been something released to those who actually have accounts there, but due to a forgotten password and shody forum support i'm blocked out womp womp. Anyway a few ppl are "excited" about the new flier stats, so figured they were out.

Thankfully i'm nearly caught up with all my painting and just in time for a few games tomorrow at E&E!! Pretty pumped as i am 2-10 against the EotBS and hoping the freshly painted Dread can help that. Agreed on the new set tho. THIS WILL HAPPEN! So many fliers...so many

oh and the stat card for the Freedom online is the same as the one currently out...

So I heard that the new stats are out for the New Orleans and the two sets of bombers, as well as an update to the Freedom class Robots. However I have yet to find them. Does anyone know where these are posted? Thanks!

General Discussion / Re: What is the purpose of a campaign guide?
« on: June 19, 2013, 10:04:03 am »
Am currently browsing through the "Pacific Cyclone" campaign guide on Spartan Games' blog.  Which leads me to the question:  what, exactly is a campaign guide?  What void is it supposed to fill in the structure of a gaming system?

I consider myself to still be relatively new to the tabletop wargaming hobby, and there are still things I don't really understand--the campaign guide being one of them.  Are they supposed to be fluff?  Do the add new rules to the game?

Good day Landlubber!

For me seeing all the fluff is nice, but I tend to scan through it and check out the scenarios at the end. Those are what seem to be the key for me...as it has to do with actually PLAYING the game. Gives more structure and depth to the entire game. Versus just showing up and trying to knock out as many opponents models as possible.

We are in the midst of a small campaign based off the one posted to this site. So far i have to say its been the best part of DW. The tactics to complete each mission are pretty fun and keeps things fluid. Not to mention it has made ppl reserve a bit of time each weekend for the last month to come out and play at least a game or two.

Back to the new DW "Pacific Cyclone" campaign, we have been using our exp with the current campaign to kind of brainstorm possible missions for the next campaign. This is where the fluff comes into to play, as we can read that and come up with some "Ya know what if..." missions. Then adding in elements of the new rules (time of day, etc). Which kind of ties the whole thing in together. There has actually been a good bit of excitement in our little crew about this new campaign. With folks going all in on dedicating time to play, and some impressive new "base" terrain. Then again we are also relatively new and enamored with the game right now.

Dunno if that answers your question, but that's just what we have been using the guides for.

ahh shame ya cant make it. We are planning on coming in when the doors open, and sticking round till they give us the boot...or the until we cant hack it anymore. ??? Should be a good time, as have never been there before. Kicking around the idea of doing a small campaign as well.

They have a fantasy tourney going as well. Haven't heard anything about MAGIC yet.

Little last minute but, we are trying to lock down a table at the GV in Fredericksburg for a few games of DW on Sat. Hopefully they have some space left for us :-[ ...So far we have three coming down, but more are welcome.

I'll update here with more details as they come in.

I would definitely suggest checking out Red November from Fantasy Flight Games. It's a semi co-op board game, where your on a literal race against time to save a sinking steampunk submarine.

Each player takes on the roll of a Russian gnome (who is often drunk but I digress), who chooses a number of "minutes" to complete a task. At first it seems like the longer you take to complete a task the more likely you are to fix the problem. However, more and more problems break loose at the end of your turn depending on time spent. These range from fires or floods breaking out in various compartments. To overheating reactors and accidental nuclear missile launches. Oh or the kraken!

Meanwhile with each event the heat, pressure, and air levels constantly force the players to decide what in a quickly deteriorating ship is vital to secure first. There are various cards your player can get to assist in repairs, but by far the best is vodka. Chugging straight from the bottle to gain the courage to make it past the raging fire in the next room. Only to then find yourself locked in with a reactor threatening to destroy the entire ship. KHAAAAANNNNN!!!! Again I digress... Eventually, once at least one player makes it to the end of the "minutes" track running along the outer edge of the board the gnomes are saved. Or you can totally forget your teammates, grabbing a rebreather (and some vodka) then making your way to an escape hatch.

This is a brilliant game that is constantly forcing you to think/move quickly. If this game was a movie I'm sure it would reek of Michael Bay. For $25 it's def well worth it.

Howdy all,

I'm a relatively new FSA  player (yet another it seems) with about a 1,500 pt force. I am up in Arlington, and play with 2 other guys. Currently we have been just playing house games on the Dreadfeet map, but are learning more and more about our fleets and will be looking to play some others soon. As we grew up going to the old Eagle and Empire by Ft. Belvoir, we're keen to try out their new location.

The other two players run EotBS, and Russian fleets. Both around the same size as myself if not larger. Our EotBS player lives in Stafford, while the rest of us in the DMV, so are also keen to check out the store in Fredericksburg.

Feel free to give us a shout and glad to be joining ya'll!
