The Showcase / 1/76 Insect class gunboat
« on: December 25, 2012, 07:55:33 pm »
Britannia's Insect class finally finished.  For our 20mm coastal naval games.  I have managed to lose the shields for the 20mm's and the original lewis guns, but it'll do.  Can't wait to try it out against my mates S-boats.  Though I am known between my friends to have a bad case of new toy syndrome, ie anything new I have gets taken out in the first round, so most likely the first hit on this will be straight into the magazine. :-\

« on: December 13, 2012, 05:41:55 am »
Seems like forever since I got anything done, anyway finally cleared these semi completed ships off the work bench, actually the carriers still need their aircraft added.  Forgot a coin so used a bottle cap for size comparison.

HM Ships Chiddingfold and Burdock.  Burdock is in what I am told is south Atlantic camo

USS Belleau Wood

HMS Vanguard

IJN Ryujo

HMS Furious

And Furious with her earlier WW1 self which I finished a while ago.

Modeling Q&A / Pair of Islands
« on: August 09, 2012, 05:44:33 am »
Very neat! I love the use of CDs as a base for the terrain; very good use of found materials. If you ever get the time, it would be great to see a DIY thread in the Q&A forum ;).

Started my next two islands of the 'CD archipelago'.  There's not much to them.  I usually plug the hole with scrap plastic or card.  Then I form the island from DAS. though I have used plaster before as well.  THis time I'm trying something different in that I'm not covering all the way to the edge  and using the cd itself as the water's edge.
Here they are waiting for the DAS to dry.

The Showcase / Operation Archery. British WW2 ships
« on: June 27, 2012, 08:03:55 pm »
My newest WW2 ships completed all Panzerschiffe.  Quite a few finished lately, but has been raining here for a week so not much else to do.

The 'Pink Lady" HMS Kenya and HM ships Offa, Onslow and Oribi for Operation Archery.  HMS Chiddingfold is on the way and I have yet to order HMS Tuna, the two transports I'm thinking will need scratchbuilding.

Will add the new destroyers here too.
2 type 45's from Sea Wulf

and a Udaloy class to finish off my soviet battle group.

The Showcase / Pacific war 1879 1/2400
« on: June 18, 2012, 06:12:21 am »
Painted these up a couple of months ago, though I have had the ships for some time.   I was reading the scenario section of my copy of Iron and Fire and realised I had the ships for the two scenarios listed for this war, they just needed painting.

First up the Peruvian ships Huascar and Independencia (Tumbling Dice miniatures)

Next the Chilean ironclads Almirante Cochrane and Blanco Encalada (Tumbling Dice)

the Chilean corvette Esmeralda and the schooner Covadonga (Hallmark ships left over from my battle of Lissa project.)

The Showcase / Naval terrain
« on: June 15, 2012, 11:42:25 am »
the few islands I've made so far.  I wanted something that actually blocked line of sight and that the ships would have to sail around.
Small sand island, base is a CD.

Small mountain island, again on a CD

And A large island with wireless station and light house.

The Showcase / Mixed space miniatures
« on: June 09, 2012, 02:54:52 am »
The few space gaming miniatures I have left, soon to be joined by some others I hope.

First some 'terrain'  a couple of asteroids, a satellite and Earth.  The large asteroid is a stone found at the beach and painted, Earth comes from a collectable magazine series, the satellite is the end of a 1/72 air to air missile and the small asteroid is a bit of clinker from an old steam loco depot found on my last track familiarisation trip.  Still need a base for the large asteroid.  Earth is a bit small, but I figured I'd never be able to paint it correctly.  All I have done is add the clouds, is about 50mm in diameter.

My remaining two ships, need new bases for these as well.  the Dwarf is the corgi model and the star destroyer comes from another collectable magazine.  Dwarf is as she comes and the SD has been given a black wash.

The Shipyard / Falklands 1982 1/2400
« on: May 05, 2012, 03:15:03 am »
This will be a slow long term project often paused to allow other projects to proceed.  It was not a planned project, I originally bought Hermes to make as the Indian carrier Viraat and General Belgrano was going to be the Chilean cruiser O'Higgins.  All are Sea Wulf except Belgrano which is GHQ.
Thus far we have Hermes, Atlantic Conveyor, Bristol, Conqueror, Valiant and Courageous.

HMS Fearless.

And the Argentinean Drummond and General Belgrano.

Have previously completed the Houston, Exeter, Perth, Electra, Encounter, Pope, John D Ford and Paul Jones.  All GHQ except Exeter
