Dystopian Wars / Help converting my classic fleet
« on: June 17, 2022, 07:11:44 pm »
Hi all, been a long time.

I'm trying to get started with the new dystopian wars rules, using my spartan french battle group box.  Reading the orbat it doesn't look like I can form a battlefleet of more than 6 ships without proxying, is that correct?

Has anyone seen a historical/fantasy version of dropzone?

Edit: Maybe something like Fighting Sail and On the Seven Seas, not sure how either of these play?

Firestorm Armada / FSA Kickstarter

What do you guys think? I'm not particularly impressed the the core race expansion boxes, but I think that's mostly because of where my fleet's at right now.

General Discussion / Kickstarters

Just a quick query to those with experience in the field.  If I pledge do they take the cash immediately, or does it wait till the end of the campaign, and does that mean I have to allow for exchange rate changes?

Firestorm Armada / Dice

I asked my local game store about bulk d6s today, and I got asked "what colour?" So I was wondering if anyone had tried using the colour scheme from the manual, and if it made life any easier?

General Discussion / Battlefield Communications
« on: July 27, 2017, 02:31:30 am »
I know from the pod cast that Ruckdog and Landlubber have both experimented with fog of war rules, but I was wondering if anyone had used chain of command and communications rules before?  The reason I ask is that I've been reading one of the andvanced rulebooks for battletech that has such rules, and it got me wondering if they added enough to the play experience to be worth the complication.

Modeling Q&A / Model kits

Can anyone recommend a good manufacturer of ship model kits, particularly age of sail, I'm having a lot of trouble finding kits online?

Naval Video Game Discussion / Stellaris

Thought I'd recommend Stellaris here.  Space based 4X RTS, millitary actions revolve almost entirely around naval warfare.  I have personally found it highly addictive, and racked up close to 50 hrs of gametime while working bush for four weeks.

This mostly applies to space navy settings, does anyone have a hard and fast rule for which name is appropriate when?

Modeling Q&A / Washing and priming Spartan Models
« on: April 28, 2017, 05:06:59 pm »
Not having worked with Resin models before Ive been looking for lots of tips online.  I found a few good tutorials related to forge world resin models that say washing and priming are a must.  I've never heard about this in reference to Spartan models, is that because it's unnecessary, or just so obvious to hobbyists used to resin that it doesn't get mentioned?

My patrol fleet has arrived, and between working away and on call, I won't be able to touch it for at least a fortnight.

Does anyone know of a skirmish game that would be good for running boarding scenarios?

Modeling Q&A / Black models
« on: March 23, 2017, 03:57:00 am »
For a number of reasons I'm getting relthoza patrol fleet instead of my intended terran or dindrenzi.  I've seen some really cool schemes that are predominantly black, but I'm a bit worried about loosing depth and detail.  Do you still use a wash and dry-brush, and if so do I have to use a coloured wash rather than sticking with something like nuln oil?
