The Showcase / Re: Ruckdog's Blazing Sun

Ruckdog, these Blazing Sun ships look incredible. Some of the best I’ve seen you do in my opinion.
Your weathering is spot on, something that I’ve found can be tough to get correct at this scale.

Thanks for the comments everybody. I’m very proud of the Ottomans, they turned out looking great.
The narrative was just a spur of the moment decision. I had some inspiriration, sent part of it to Landlubber, and he added his portions and sent it back. For me the narrative really made the whole experience.

Dystopian Wars / Re: how do the french play?
« on: September 22, 2017, 07:56:04 am »
The French have a really nice “customization is key” fleet. They have a lot of ship options with a lot of possible fleet compositions to do different things. For instance, I used to often build a slow, defensive fleet that was able to get decent AD numbers from heat lance attacks and stay at arms length. More recently I’ve been building a very fast and aggressive fleet that is great at decimating squadrons with close range gunnery and then boarding.
I’ll list out some fun tricks and features that the French have.
  • Heat lance weapons, only fleet to have them, tons of bonuses when attacking
  • Almost all secondary weapons, most squadrons can link all of their weapons in one attack
  • Cloud generators, the large ships are hit on a 5, this gives your opponent a real headache
  • High AA values and redoubtable AA, you almost don’t have to worry about rockets or SAS...almost
I think the French are a really fun fleet to play. I always feel like I’m able to try new stuff instead of getting locked into the “only one good strategy” mindset.

Those pictures turned out looking great!
I have to say that in hindsight we could have designed the scenario better. We should have played a regular game of dystopian wars with normal objectives and just assigned VP to capturing/saving the oil rig objectives. After the rigs were destroyed it just turned into a general slog until we were either satisfied with our game or too wiped out mentally to continue. If we had normal objectives we could have kept the tense fight going to the end.
I have to say also that 2.5 was definitely fun at this size. The slight increase in deadliness of gunnery, and the improved streamline of boarding assault was felt on both sides.

Thanks for sharing! Would you mind posting full fleet lists?

I can’t speak to Landlubber’s full list but mine was something like this.
Kanuni Dreadnaught with storm generator
2x Mizrak frigate escorts
Sadrazam battleship with storm generator
2x Mizrak frigate escorts
Magenta Battleship with cloud generator, aggressive crew, and standard turret
2x Sinop monitors with storm generator and fighter support
3x Fettah cruisers with storm generator
3x Dieppe cruisers with aggressive crew
4x Avci destroyers
4x Mizrak frigates
4x Chevalier destroyers
5x Requin corvettes
3x Voltaire interceptors
2x Fureoix scoutships
3x Frelon bombers
3x Zuhaf minelayers
3x Zuhaf minelayers

Did you get it?

I ended up holding off on that particular Hisar. I found one from noble knight games on eBay for a much deeper discount.

If you are based in the UK I can send a hawk.

Unfortunately I'm in the states, but thank you very much.

I forgot to ask you Dale, which edition of the directorate models do you have? Old, new, brand new?

The Swap Shop / Spartan Games Model Search
« on: September 02, 2017, 01:10:19 am »
I've been away from the forum for awhile, I figure with all of the crazy stuff happening with Spartan it's time to throw up a post for interested parties to sling some models back and forth. I'm looking to complete some factions/squadrons and I'm sure some others are looking to do the same.

I'm looking for...
French St. Malo Battleship with fast attack subs
1 French Furoix scout flyer
3 French Frelon small flyers
1 Brittanian Hawk scout rotor
Ottoman Hisar mobile airfield
Almost anything RSN or Veydreth for Firestorm Armada

I have French, Australian, FSA, Ottomans, Terquai, Oroshon

Looking for trades or money

Cheers

I'd love to give Blood and Plunder a try. It looks like great fun.

The Aussie air assets are essentially the Same as the British barring some changes in MARs (model assigned rules) to make them Aussie and not British. As for allies you couldn't go wrong with Brits, but the Indian Raj wouldn't be bad either. The Aussies and the Americans also pair surprisingly well together. The long range of the FSA, with cheap carriers, is brutal when combined with the heavy weapons and boarding actions of the Australians. It's a fun combination.
