Space Naval Games / Re: Shattered Void
« on: March 24, 2020, 11:48:44 pm »
Thanks for the rundown!

For my part, I got both EEF and Vitruvian ships. I picked the fighter squadron for both, and added a ship from the support squadron for each faction, plus the EEF corvette (which seems a little out of scale when compared to the fighters).

All the miniatures are there...I haven’t yet inventoried the peripherals. I have to say the sculpts for both the EEF and the Vitruvians are excellent. There is some great detail on those ships and I can’t wait to paint them up. Definitely more detailed than the pre-painted models used in X-Wing and BSG-Starship Battles (although the miniatures for those games are great).

I too will post pics as I start to get them assembled and painted.

I like the vertical orientation of the Veydreth ships. Interested to see where they go with this.

I *think* this is a new product. I've heard a little grumbling on the interwebz about the scale...apparently it's 1/1800 which is out of scale for a lot of WW2 naval miniatures (although I think AA War at Sea is 1/1800).

Easy E, yeah, bit of a tidal wave (pun intended!) of naval games here recently. Cruel Seas, Black Seas, Oak and Iron, now this Victory at Sea on the horizon...not a bad time to be a naval wargamer!

Yep, Adepticon cancelled and now Koboldcon, our local gaming con in Colorado Springs, is cancelled too.

Well, I owe QuickDraw a Coke! Got my starfighters today. Everything looks in order. Ships are very detailed and the models are beautiful. Pics to follow soon!

Ha! Great questions.

I unfortunately won't be there. Probably next year.

I probably won't have time to do a pick-up game of Halo Fleet Battles at Koboldcon, but maybe I'll run another game of it officially. Didn't have any trouble filling slots last year. I actually wanted to run a game of Halo Ground Command but I won't have enough miniatures painted in time (I know, I know, I've had it for three years--I'm working on it).

I've played War Rocket a couple times and enjoyed it...I just need to bite the bullet and get a fleet. Kinda partial to the Galacteers and the pirate faction.

Firestorm was...just ok, in my opinion. I started with Dystopian Wars, and was pretty well versed in that game system by the time I picked up a Firestorm fleet. The game systems were just too similar to me--it felt like Dystopian Wars "in spaaaaaaaaaace...". Didn't help that I picked the RSN (based solely on aesthetics) and never could get them to work for me. Really liked the models though. But all of the above is why I'm interested to see what Warcradle does with the Firestorm universe--I was never as attached as I was to Dystopian Wars, so if they make a bunch of radical background and model changes, it won't bother me as much.

Ha! I wouldn't say this is my worst Kickstarter experience. That dubious honor unfortunately goes to the last Dystopian Wars Kickstarter campaign, wherein I pledged money but never got anything.

Bet you a Coke that we don't see it before 1 June 2020. :) I mean, I'm hoping we do...don't get me wrong. But I won't be surprised if we don't. I don't think the guy is dishonest, I just think he bit off WAY more than he could chew and had a run of bad luck with some stuff. But I'm in the same boat, at this point I can't hardly remember what I pledged for or even what it looks like. We'll definitely need to do a Front Range Shattered Void day either in Denver or the Springs once we all get our stuff.

I still need to get into War Rocket, dangit. If you're jonesing for a spaceship game, don't forget I have a massive amount of Covenant and UNSC ships for Halo Fleet Battles. I know it's a dead game but it's still a good ruleset. Let me know if you're ever interested in playing.

Yeah it sounds like we're going to get the Oak and Iron pledge rewards sometime in March. Based on the pics I'm seeing and what I'm reading online about it, I think it's going to be a LOT of fun. Will set up a Sunday gaming session with you as soon as I get the pieces assembled. We can fumble through the rules together.

Thanks all for the kinds words and we're glad you enjoyed the podcast.

Dakkar, as luck would have it BrdngPrty contacted me last week about Dropfleet--apparently Colpar Hobbies in Denver (the Havana street location) ran a Dropfleet event over this past weekend, and supposedly it's going to be regular thing. I don't think I've ever seen any Dropfleet product on their shelves, so not sure, but I'm intrigued. I was out of town and wasn't able to attend, so I'm going to contact BrdngPrty and get the scoop.

The BSG game is good but it is developing slowly...I *think* the Viper Mk VII is now out, so that's three distinct ships for the Colonials (Vipers Mk II and Mk VII and Raptor), and two for the Cylons (Raider and Heavy Raider). There are a couple of noticeable variants for the Raptor, the SAR/ECM variant and the Assault Variant. It's a solid ruleset and the minis are great but if you're looking for a huge variety in your forces, it probably isn't the game for you. I'm enjoying it and I'll likely run a scenario at Koboldcon in Colorado Springs in April.

Will let you know when I get my Oak and Iron pledge rewards--I should be able to get down there for a Sunday game or something like that. Unfortunately we won't get a chance to review it on the podcast until Andy gets back!

Thanks for letting us know! If you go, please take (and post) some pictures, would love to see some of the games represented there.

Understandable. I might get into it later but I want to see how GW fleshes it out. The models are REALLY nice though.

News and Rumors / New War Rocket fleet!
« on: October 24, 2019, 09:58:18 pm »
Our friends over at Hydra Miniatures have debuted a new fleet for War Rocket!

http://www.hydraminiatures.com/

I’ve been thinking about getting into this game for a couple of years but I keep getting distracted by other gaming subjects (cough starwarslegion cough). I know we have a few players out here along the Front Range. Any other players out there in MBS land?

Very cool! I’ve never seen these models before, but then my knowledge of Battletech is pretty limited
