Quickdraw's Ottoman Armada
« on: February 03, 2016, 11:36:28 pm »
I've been working on my Ottomans for Dystopian Wars. I started a test scheme on a gunship and have finished the Dreadnaught and its gunship support.
Here they are sailing in formation

Here is the Dreadnaught by itself

And here is a picture of the sweet Ottoman turrets (definitely my favorite Dystopian turrets), the planes docked in their hangers, and the whitewashed decks I mentioned in my test scheme thread.

Looking good! I knew adding a wash to the lower hull would help. Is that Devlan Mud?

Can't wait to see these on the table!

Generally not a fan of earth tones, but what you've done with those really look great.  Particularly love the dark blue windows contrasting with the lighter blue of the gun battery surrounds.  Echoing Greg, looking forward to seeing them in person.

Thanks Mark. I've been on a kick with using brown recently and I've been liking it. I used the same brown on some Inifnity miniatures and it's a great neutral base for a sharp accent.

Greg, it's called Agrax Earthshade. But I think it's basically Devlan Mud.

I really like how they came out! You did a good job keeping the blue spots vibrant :).

Ahh, Devlan Mud..such a useful wash. What it is in technical terms is a brown-black wash; some browns, and therefore some brown washes, have some reddish hue to them. From the original GW wash range, the brown-red wash was Ogyrn Flesh, IIRC.

I've finished some more Ottoman ships. This completes my Ottoman collection (until I get the fleet box) and also marks the first time I've completed a full fleet for Dystopian Wars.
First is the Mizrak frigates

And the Avci destroyers (I realized now that I need to fix the gears that move the turrets)

The Zuhaf minelayers

And here is the fleet in it's entirety

Thanks Dale!
It's been a really fun little experiment finding a place for the blue accent on all the different ships.

Looks good man. Maybe we can find some time to leave our Halo fleets in spacedock and play a little Dystopian Wars. I can probably match you ship-for-ship with my RoF. Would be cool to see both fleets on the table.

Thanks Greg.
That would be an interesting game. I could take the Sepratists so we don't have any alliance incidents. They are now distinct by being more about defense and board control compared to the Traditionalists.
With the new ORBAT I can field 860 points. With a pair of dreadnaughts I imagine it would turn into a serious brawl.

Great work!  They look suspiciously like your Terrans.

Ha! Surprisingly Stephan, I don't think there is a single color besides seraphim sepia shade that is shared between the two fleets.

If you mean they look similar to my Terran's in pure, mean hearted sculduggery...you're probably right.

It must be the sepia making them look similar.  I really like the effect on both fleets and the blue adds a nice pop.  Yes, sculduggery.

The tan color is definitely similar. I used a medium tan on my Terrans that is highlighted up to a lighter tan. The Ottoman building structures were drybrushed bone over brown. So there are definitely similarities.

Here is my final update for the time being. I've completed the SAS that work as squadron support for the dreadnaught and the monitors. Unfortunately I don't have the requisite 10 necessary for my local air support.

These were actually super fun to paint, there is a lot of depth because of those great big (pod-racer) engines.
