Hmmmm, I've dug my B5 stuff back out.  I'll fill the time between now and when the rules release by getting all the B5 Wars stats in Excel so I can come up with conversions more easily once the new edition of Firestorm comes out.

Another fun question would be "WORST Space Battle?"

I'd easily offer BATTLE BEYIND THE STARS

Also, let's face it, LAST STARFIGHTER is probably the worst space battle too, but also the best because of "Death Blossom".

I'm rather fond of Battle Beyond the Stars......

For bad space battles, it's hard to beat Message from Space https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOSmIJCHqcQ

I picked Scarif for a couple reasons.  First, is the nostalgia effect from them using the original squadron leaders from Episode IV to bridge the timeline.  I also like that you can catch a glimpse of the Ghost.  Aside from that, I think it stood out because a) it didn't involve a Death Star; b) it didn't involve a 10 year old kid; c) the ion strike on the Star Destroyer followed by the Hammerhead ram (another ship from Rebels) was really nicely done; and d) having the escaping rebel ships smash into Vader's Star Destroyer when it popped in was a nice touch.

The final scene with Vader working his way through that rebel ship was also a favorite, but I don't count that as part of the "space battle".

Lastly, if I go outside Star Wars, you really can't beat B5.  Yes Greg, the CGI is really dated, but for the time they were really well done.  The below is a nice example.  It's a two-parter since I couldn't find the whole battle segment, including Ivanova's speech.

Part 1  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaSmassvv4w
Part 2, somebody redid the music, but the battle is pretty much intact.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk3ro-QEiBg

And then this is the Shadow Dancing battle.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAsk3ay3e98&list=PLwFTMUwVj2Szjoyl8f1mZ-AdofSibVhPf&index=7

DeepWars / Re: Fortune Hunters vs Nereids, 530 points

Thanks for the write-up Greg!

My force was composed of Amatheia (Deep Caller) and her Hammerhead Shark (warbeast), Eidotheria the Nereid Captain (Leader), the Nereid Guardian of the Reef (basic trooper), and Calypso (the Hidden One).

The Nereids are definitely fragile.  With a typical CS of 2 or 3, at most 1 armor and 3 wounds on their body, the female Nereids really can't take a hit.  I had to rely on the shark for most of the real damage dished out, helped by Amatheia's deep caller ability which grants +1 activation to friendly animals and warbeasts in range.  I did something similar with Eidotheria's Leader ability, which gives +1 to the activation roll of nearby allies.  That meant anyone within 1 long stick of her was generally working off of a quality of 2+ for activation rolls.  Even so, the Nerieds themselves were relegated to hit and run attacks, dodging in and out of cover.

I think my next Nereid purchase will have to be Icthelion, Lord of the Seas.  He's 141 points, but he provides both a heavy hitting power and the Sea Shaman ability.  With Sea Shaman, I can summon up to 150 points of sea creatures into the game at a max of 50 pts per summoning.  Combine that with Amatheia's Deep Caller ability and I think it will work well.

Have you considered moving it to Saturday instead of Sunday?  Talking to the Collectormania 40K guys last weekend, they usually show up to do miniatures stuff on Sunday.

Definitely!  I'm planning to build 2 4x4 tables that can be fitted together into a single 4x8, so we could easily do two small games or one big one.

Roll Call / I'm back!

After my long sabbatical from MBS I'm back and ready to get into it.  I'm still doing Warhammer 30K, but I'm also painting up my Nereids for Deep Wars and building a game room in my basement so I have a regular place to play with other local folks.  FYI, Lowes sells 4' LED lights that look just like the long florescent bulbs but without all the flickering and such, and a 4ft long light is under $30.

Good question Dakkar.  We pondered that ourselves.  To start with, the Warbeasts are actually only Q 4+ and, more importantly, the Nereids can't take them unless they also take Amatheia.  She's an 86pt personality model with no ranged attack and no armor.  Her sole function is to allow you to take the warbeasts, and so is an 86 point tax to the force.  Even then, that may not be enough.  We need to play a bit more before saying for sure.

For the rest of the Nereids, their price is pretty hefty.  I don't have the big male Nereid, but I've got all the females, and they range in price from 85pts to 105pts.  Their only "basic trooper" is the reef guardian, and those come in at 94pts each.  The Nereids are fast, but they're pretty light on armor.  The majority have an AV0 and the highest (among what I've got) is a 1.  Note, that's the Nereids, not the warbeasts.

I know I've been quiet for a while, but I've kept my eye on Spartan's releases and I'm really liking that new space station.

That'll be iffy for me since I usually spend Sunday with the wife on no-kid weekends.  The 15th is a no-go for me as well however since I'll likely be at work that day.

Hey, sorry to do this, but I have to bow out for tomorrow.  I've got a lot that I need to get done this weekend and tomorrow looks like my best opportunity.
