Title: BFG Video Game
Post by: Ruckdog on January 16, 2015, 09:10:43 pm
Ohhhhhhhh yeah:

Safe to say, I'm cautiously optimistic about this one  8)

That could be very cool. Hope it's Mac-friendly!

I'll tell you what, gentlemen--it's a good time to be a gamer. And a nerd in general.*

*I learned this on the latest D6G podcast. Of the top 20 highest-grossing movies in the US in 2014, only three--THREE--were not sci fi/fantasy/comic book related. The highest grossing "real" movie was 22 Jump Street, at #11. #1 was, of course, Guardians of the Galaxy. Their source was boxofficemojo.com.

Greg, I've run tons of Windows games stuff on my iMac using Bootcamp.  They've always worked great till my video card became overwhelmed with the graphics demands of more recent/graphics hogging games (like EVE).

Thumbs up to Total War for adding this to their extensive games list. Not so much of a PC gamer anymore, as i can bring myself to open the laptop when not at work. Not to mention that i don't have a proper machine to run these kinds of games. However, back when i did there were countless hours spent on any of the many Total War games. Brilliant stuff, and i'm assuming the ships here will function much like the ones in Empire. Perhaps I can convince my hardcore PC gamer friends to pick it up and invite me over for a sesh!

A new teaser for the game just went up!

The developer also has a snazzy new website for the game:

There is a short (6 minutes or so) interview with the developer that's been posted on YouTube:

http://youtu.be/DspNXEY1esc

I really do encourage you to watch the video if you are interested in the game. There is some neat in-game footage that is played while the interview is being given. A few big points that were brought up:

- Release will be sometime in Q1 2016
- Imperial Navy, Orks, Eldar, and Chaos will be playable at launch
- Multiplayer will be 2 vs. 2
- ships will be custumizable with various upgrades.
- "Most" of the ships from the minis game will be playable
- An effort is being made to represent the tabletop game's mechanics in the video game; the Special Orders, such as BFI, were specifically mentioned.

The graphics look good. I really like the detail on the ships. Those incoming missiles/torpedoes looked sweet!

Only thing that looked weird to me are the "light stands" under the ships. Looks too much like actual physical flight stands for miniatures.

Post by: Ruckdog on June 29, 2015, 02:25:29 pm
Huh...I see what you mean! I had to go back and watch it again; I didn't notice the "stands" when I watched it the first time. I think it looks OK, but I wouldn't worry too much about it one way or the other at this point. This game footage is so early, Who knows? Maybe the stands will be removed by later versions of the game. Or players might be given the option to toggle them on and off!

Nothing firm. The dev mentioned in the video that they are shooting for an "early" 2016 release, so it sounds like it will be a while. We might see an Early Access for it before then, though. A lot of games are doing it that way now.

Please let there be an early access.

The developers have just posted a gameplay video:

Looks great if you ask me! They are still going with the "flight stand" drop-down beneath each ship, it looks like.

Just logged into Steam, and BFG is now available for pre-order! The game will sell for $40, but if you jump in between now and the 29th, you can save 10%. According to the Steam page, the game is set for a March 2016 release.

EDIT:

To clarify, this is a pre-order. The stated benefits of preordering are:

-Getting the Space Marines as a playable faction for free (this will later be a purchasable DLC for those that don't pre-order)
-Access to the Beta test, which is due to take place a few weeks before the final release of the game.

Reposted here for posting in different thread and wanting to put in the right place.

For those of you following the BFG pc game, it goes live open beta on thursday afternoon.

Here is an Angryjoe review back at the middle of last month, its really just a sit and watch as the Dev plays it, but here it goes. Also the devs are French, so the accent can be a bit thick at times. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw5V2O7jQJU

Looks a bit like sins but turn based. I do like all the customization they have for the ships with your renown granting additinal addons and the ships able to gain experience. It looks like they tried to follow the BBB campaign rules pretty closely.

Also the sector map in the video is the port maw sector map straight from the Rule book. And the other 6 sub sectors are pulled straight from the book as well. Talk about attention to detail. This makes me very hopeful for thursday night!

Fired up just fine for me! I played the first couple of missions of the tutorial, about 45 min total. Awesome stuff! The game really nails the BFG feel to me. Unfortunately, I discovered that the devs haven't implemented a save feature yet for the campaign, so I will have to start over when I go back to play again   :-[. Looks like it's solo skirmish and multiplayer only for me, until they implement the save system anyway :).

Odd... I will check and see. It might be that I'm listed under my proper name or something.

So, I have to admit...even though I can't save my game, I'm thinking of playing the campaign again to try and get a little further. I saw several intriguing things going on with the ship upgrades and the like that I want to explore some more.

I'm planning on spending a decent amount of time with this game over the weekend...hopefully I will see some of you there! It would be fun to play some multiplayer matches to try it out.

I'm going to have to upgrade my systen before I can even try to play online. It's so choppy on single player it's not even funny. Hopefully once the full version drops they'll activate the options to go lower res and that should help out.

Hehe figured out how to change the video settings from their defaults (you have to select custom to enable the drop downs). Computer is still too slow to play it properly :D

I played a bit more tonight, and started in on the single player skirmish. I have to say, it is fun to unlock new ships and upgrades! I got to level 2, which gave me access to my first full-sized cruiser. I promptly bought a Tyrant-class  8).

I went with the Dictator. Why? Because of its nice launch bays. With the way boarding craft goes and boarding, I feel this is the best thing. With one boarding craft I can knock down a Generator, engines, weapons, or any number of other things.
Title: Re: BFG Video Game
Post by: Andrewchristlieb on March 12, 2016, 01:09:44 am
Yeah that's what I've been playing on too. Just hit level 5 so I picked up a Mars. Went Lunar for the first cruiser since it's a classic and Dictator for the second because of the attack craft. I was surprised to see them have the option for assault boats though.
Title: Re: BFG Video Game
Post by: Ulric the Grey on March 12, 2016, 10:26:43 am
So far I have a Dictator with Favors from the Adaptus Astartes, A Gothic Cruiser with the lance range and damge to shields upgrade, a Mars with no upgrades, saving the renown for more favors.

I finally got it working!  No time to play tonight, but I plan to get on tomorrow.  Any advice for a first time run-through?  Any ideas on ow to get it to go full screen?
Title: Re: BFG Video Game
Post by: Ulric the Grey on March 16, 2016, 12:45:51 am
yes...go to graphics in the option sections stephan, click Full window or full screen. Enjoy... Now you will have to mess around to get the resolution right.

Tips.... Imperial, go nova cannon once you hit cruisers and BC's.
Chaos Go with the carrier boats. Assualt craft spam wrecks the opposition.

I think both need to be rebalanced to some degree. though I feel that Assualt craft spam more so than the NC. Mainly because NC has a min distance and a 90 degree firing arc. Where as the Assault craft have no min and 360 degree arc.

Looks like the campaign hasn't been implemented yet. Hopefully soon!

I've played a few games with the Eldar so far...wow, do they play differently than the other factions! As one might expect, they require a lot of finesse to play. So far, the biggest thing I've learned is to always, ALWAYS, keep moving. I keep unintentionally ramming my ships into things though  :(.

Post by: Stephan on May 18, 2016, 03:23:48 pm
So, how's everyone liking the game?  I've been working through the campaign and it definitely starts to give a feeling of being overwhelmed since you lose planets faster than you can recover them.  I also just discovered the graphics changes that occur when you put a Favor onto one of your ships.  I put the mechanicum favor on a cruiser and now it's red with a big mechanicus symbol on the front.  I can't wait to see what happens when I put an Inquisition Favor on one of the ships.
Title: Re: BFG Video Game
Post by: Ruckdog on May 20, 2016, 01:14:29 pm
I noticed the same thing with favors when I put Space Marines on one of my cruisers!

I have to be honest, though...I haven't loaded this up for a couple of weeks. My limited gaming time has been going towards WoWS lately  ;). I do plan on trying to get a bit further in the campaign this weekend, though.
