Dystopian Legions Announced!

I took a look at some pictures posted by the TGN editors and saw some new pictures:





I guess Spartan shifted gears a bit from Firestorm Invasion, but I'm excited at the prospect of painting some of my favorite tiny tank models at a larger scale.

Cool! I am definitely liking the looks of these models! I am going to have to get the "small" tank models, for sure. Even if I wind up not playing the game, they will be cool to whip out and sit next to a token from DW and say, "See, this is how big everything is!"

I've actually had people come up to me at stores and say that they really want infantry in DW, as "The scale of things is meaningless without infantry." These tank models would solve that problem nicely 

Just imagine how big the other models in the battlegroup boxes would be; the medium tanks would be something like 4' long and 2-3' high! Not to mention the land ships and mobile airfields

You bring up a good point, Andy.  Given the crazy size of the vehicles in this game, how will they do anything larger than infantry and the smallest of the tanks?  The Russian Kursk would be the size of my Jeep if they did it in 28mm.

Also...cost.  The small tanks seem to be about the size relation of a Land Raider to an Imperial Guardsman.  Land Raiders are about $55, and they're all plastic.  Now, I know Spartan is not GW, but if they do these tanks in resin, they ain't gonna be cheap.

Agreed!  I can't wait to get my hands on one of those Blazing Sun "tiny tanks" in 28mm scale.

Many of us have talked about trying to modify the exploding 6 Spartan die mechanic for skirmish games, but from what I've heard this may be something of a departure from the usual.

All the same, I want to see more steampunk Ashigaru and proper rocket marines in 28mm scale.

Neat! I've been thinking of getting something similar. Where did younger the figs from?

All the tiny figures, artillery, tractors, and trucks for DW I picked up at Historicon, from a Polish manufacturer.  They are actually 1/600 scale, but up next to the small and medium tanks they look about right.  I also got some packs of cavalry; what could be more alternative 1870 than Polish lancers charging a squadron of tiny tanks?

The starter boxes contain 12-14 figures for around $55 each box.  I'm definitely picking up the Japanese, but I'm going to at least pick up the FSA starter box because I like the models.

Great.  More stuff to buy and paint.  I need to win the lottery, so I'll have the money to buy the models and the time to paint/play with them.

Work gets in the way of EVERYTHING.

So I wonder if Dystopian Legions will incorporate the same activation-by-squadron system that Dystopian Wars does?  Or will it be more like Warhammer 40k?

There are activation cards in addition to a deck of 26 cards included in each box, so I'm thinking it will still be an activation by squadron/unit, although there may be some random element to it (I've been playing Muskets & Tomahawks which features activation cards for units).

This game continues to look great! I will probably not be jumping in right away...I've got too much stuff to build and paint already! I still plan on getting the small tanks when they hit, though .

And today a post on the Spartan Games blog about the release of a 80-page quickplay rulebook in PDF!  It should be along the lines of the Planetfall rules, but we'll know for sure soon enough.
