Contest Rules UPDATE 4/15: Voting Has Begun!

(1/3) > >>

Ruckdog:
Hello everyone! To celebrate the first year that MBS has been online, we are conducting a painting contest. The idea is to submit pictures, where they will be posted in threads that can be voted on in poll format.

Eligibility

All participants must have an active account on the Man Battlestations forums.

Submissions

All submissions are due by Monday, 15 April.  One submission is permitted per forum member, consisting of a single picture no larger than 3 megabytes in size at a resolution 0f 800 x 600 pixels. Any submissions larger than this size will be re-sized by the administrators. Pictures can be submitted either by posting them on the official submissions thread, or emailing them to gamerandy05@gmail.com.

Subject

Each submission must be of a subject related to naval minature wargaming (i.e., a ship or ships of some kind). The game can be of any era or scale. Multiple ships ("fleet shots") can be included. Additionally, multiple angles can be incorporated into a single submission, as long as the overall submission is still within the limits above.

Voting

Submissions will be voted upon in separate voting threads via a forum poll. Voting will take place over two or more rounds, with the submissions being split into a number of individual rounds. Each round will last no less than 5 days. Once the contest has been narrowed down to the 3 finalists, the final round of voting will be held and the winner declared. The administers reserve the right to cast tie-breaking votes.

Prizes

Prizes will be in the form of gift certificates to The War Store (http://www.thewarstore.com/). All currency amounts are in USD.

1st Place: $50
2nd Place: $30
3rd Place: $20

UPDATE!

Here is how voting will work. If we get less than 9 submissions, all the voting will be done in one round. If we get between 9-12 entries, there will be two rounds of voting; the first round will have 3 "heats," with 3-4 submissions each. This will allow members to vote more, as you will be able to vote once per heat. If we get more than 12 entries, then there will need to be a third rounding of voting to narrow down the field. The goal is that by the time we get to the final round of voting, we will be down to the top three entrants. Here is the official schedule for voting:

Round 1: 15-22 April
Round 2: 22-29 April
Round 3 (If necessary): 29 April- 6 May.

In all cases, the voting threads will be closed at Midnight GMT (That's 0000Z for you Navy types ;)). Right now, I'm anticipating there being two rounds of voting with the winner being declared on 29 April, but who knows!

Feedback and suggestions are welcome, please post them below. Good luck and happy painting!

UPDATE 4/15:

The voting threads for the first round of voting are now up! They will be open for a total of 7 days, so that means they will be closed next Monday evening EST. There will officially be two rounds of voting; the three winners from round one will be advanced to the final round to compete for the three prizes. We had a great response to the contest, with 12 members submitting entries! These 12 submissions were each assigned a number, and then were randomly assigned to a heat with three other submissions. Each member can vote once in each heat, meaning that each member gets a total of three votes this round. Good luck to all the entrants, and may the best model win!

Landlubber:
Ruckdog--do Dystopian Wars airships count?  Or does it have to be a surface vessel?

Ruckdog:
Airships count! So do landships. They are "ships," after all ;).

Landlubber:
Cool.  Thanks for the clarification.

MajorMcNicol:
This is going to motivate me to paint one of my remaining capitals!

Remains to be seen, however, whether I choose land or sea...
