I am in the process of getting ready to run a large scenario game at Gamer's Haven in Colorado Springs on the 26th of July and looking for interested players. The 26th of July is a sunday. More information will be given as i figure it out.
-
DemonFerret, I may be at the store that day trying out the new Halo miniatures game. If I'm there, I'll swing by and check out your game.
If you've cooked up some sort of large-game scenario, please post a battle report and some pictures once it's done! Most of us are always on the lookout for new scenarios to play.
-
Landlubber. I was the one who came up with the concept for the scenario but Dale Kunz was the one who wrote it.
"Babylon Falls - Detente' Has Failed"
BACKGROUND:
The planet Babylon-Six has been a two-decade experiment in diplomacy and trade between the Zenian League and the Alliance of Kurak. While hostilities raged in the nearby Storm Zone, many political and economic factions have demonstrated the need for a neutral ground, and for strictly regulated exchanges of humanitarian goods that one side can only get from the other.
Rather than risk the pitfalls of shared security, paired Battle-stations were established above a gas giant (6th from it's sun) in the unclaimed Babylon System. To keep them in easy trade range, but low hostilities range, they were built in orbits around the planet's largest moons, Gilgamesh and Enkidu, each with facing surface colonies on their respective lunar surfaces. Gilgamesh and Enkidu are gravitationally linked, and remain fairly adjacent to one another throughout their orbits. Both also share fair atmospheres and mineral wealth.
This has been a profitable arrangement for many races and companies over the years, and the primary location for the factions to exchange communiques and prisoners. This arrangement has grown to seem eternal and self-sustaining over the past decade, such that real colonies have grown on the surface of Gilgamesh. The personnel manning each station often have friends and family on the surface, and on the other side. Distance and the relative calm of the assignment mean that the military rotation in and out of the system is very low. While their loyalties remain clearly hewn to their governments, they would resent fiercely any change to their established way of life, as would happen with any other colonists.
As is natural for that class, a Directorate VP observed the relative prosperity of the Babylon system, and saw only an opportunity for profit and conquest. While she placed her investment and political dominos, she reached out in secret to an asset within the RSN clergy who she had personally compromised years before. Over the past year of planning, fleet resources have been maneuvered into place, while RSN agents, both open and clandestine, have escalated tensions.
The Directorate machinations did not go unnoticed in some quarters, notably the STL, whose leadership takes a long view. And while officially opposed, the STL boss in question relayed his theories to contacts within the Aquan Sebrutan. In the deeper chambers of the Sebrutan, for their own inscrutable reasons, the Directorate-Zenian invasion was not headed off, but rather allowed to proceed. But a firm response has been planned

Sounds very cool. I like the back-story behind the scenario. You'll definitely have to post some pictures of the engagement--sounds like you'll have a LOT of ships on the board.
I've run similar scenarios with Dystopian Wars, where island fortresses have to be captured. It's always an entertaining fight, as ships rush in to dump their AP into the target. Of course, in Dystopian Wars, you can block movement and line of sight, so inevitably someone tries to park a battleship in their opponent's approach path...
-
I'm hoping the need to protect one station while capturing the other will mean less of a scrum in the middle.
-
I hope it keeps some people from getting to mine happy.
-
Event is now Spartan Official, and I have a PRIZE PACKET in hand...
-
Really count me in, I will have RSN and Dindrenzi by that time. FOR DRAMOS!
-
What should i post on the sign up. I need name, faction (dindrenzi or Rense from the sound of it) and email address. Send a message if you dont want to display info in the forum.
-
Sean, what's the current count and mix of factions?
-
Those Grand Admirals sound like they could be true behemoths with the additional upgrades ???
Should be an interesting game, I have something scheduled that day already but I might come take a peak at the table.
-
With ulric 8 i think. I have about 5 maybe as well. 4 slots left. You and dale are signed as switch players. There are 4 confirmed kurak, two aquan, 1 terran, 1 sorylian, on the Zenian side we have a directorate and rense (Ulric).
-
Sounds like I should ready my Relthoza/ba'Kash! :-)

Aye, Quickdraw and I will be shaking out the new Halo: Fleet Battles game that day, but I will also come have a look at the set-up. Sounds like it'll be a good day for space gaming and Spartan Games at the Haven!

HALO can wait! Come play in the giant game!

Sorry man. I haven't been this excited about a game release in...well, ever, because all the other games I play were already out when I started playing.

If these numbers are still holding, I may need to brush up my skill with the Oroshan.

Any updates on player #'s and fleets? Are you expecting anyone from the Colorado Firestorm page?
For anyone in Denver, I'm willing to drive if you want to meet me at the Target at I25 and Arapahoe Sunday morning.
-
Since we seem to have plenty of Kurak alliance, I'm assuming I'll be playing Zenian side.
Thus the Relthozan dreadnought UNGOLIANT signals her eagerness for the rendevous. So many juicy, tasty foes to savor!
-
9th player signed up today. However we need someone to put up a fleet for him to play. He would prefer to play zenian but either side would work. Thank you to whoever can do this.

I've got the Dindrenzi he can use
-
The current player count and sides. 9 players
Kurak:
Me: Terran/Hawker
Chris: Aquan
Reagen: Sorylians
Mike: Aquan
Zenian:
Dale: Relthoza?
John: Rense
Mike: Directorate
Sergio: dales Dindrenzi
Stephan you can pick either side and we will add 1k to the other side.
-
I say Stephan got with the Kurak side, and I'll do an extra 1K of Relthoza just in case... or add 1K of Ba'Kash
I have the Battle Station for Relthoza, but not the Orbital Platforms. Anyone Zenian have those for their faction or otherwise?
What Station and Orbital Platforms will the Kurakians be using?
All players advised to remember to build for Boarding!
And lastly, if you pronounce "Aquans" as "Aquians" you will be banned... ;-)
-
Dale, I have one of the TA-4 Starport models you all can use if you would like. It's not painted (of course!). I can also bring some lava rock asteroids if you all would like to use them. Some are set up to mount on Spartan flight stands. Just let me know.
-
I am bummed I am going to be outta town for this. I'd love to see LOTS of pictures and some spicy battle report. Not gonna root for a side, as I like most of the fleets in both factions, but I will root for lots of spectacular explosions, miraculous shields and general mayhem and destruction for all!
-
Stephan i have one of the T4 Stations as well. Got it from one of dales demo days actually. I think the platforms are the thing both sides are missing. And mark i have plans to run other games if this one goes well so i think there will be other chances.
-
If possible, each side should have one correct Battlestation from one of their side's factions.
If not possible, we'll use the T4 Starports, pick a stat box, and do a "counts as".
I do have a Relthoza Station, but if one side uses a T-4 and we have another, maybe we'll go with BOTH as T-4's just for symmetry.
The other tricky bit is we need a set of Orbital Platforms to go with each Station. I don't have the Relthoza ones, and don't fancy buying the whole box set with extra Station just for them. I was going to proxy using Nidus Frigates (roughly the same shape).
This will work for either side, as long as it's CLEAR. :-)

Prize Thoughts:
We have Gift Certificates for 1st/2nd/3rd, Sportsman, and Painted. Here's my initial ideas for giving those out:
We'll track Battle Log mainly by Team, but also by player.
1st Place - Player with highest individual Log on Winning side
2nd Place - Player with 2nd highest Log on Winning side
3rd Place - Player with highest individual Log on Losing side
Best Sportsmanship:
We'll have confidential voting for "Favorite Opponent" and "Favorite Teammate" - highest votes wins.
Best Painted:
I'll simply judge this one.
Thoughts?
-
I dont want painting to be a factor so i want to do that prize as second best player on losing side so fourth place.

Sounds like a solid approach to me!

If you would like, I can send you some MBS dice to give away as part of the prizes, or even as participation awards. Let me know! ;)

We'd welcome them, thanks! The one problem with the Spartan packs is not having physical swag to give away, unless you get BOTH the Demo and Tourney kit, but that'd be tough to get approval for. :-)
So participation prizes will help!
You can send to:
Gamer's Haven
c/o Dale Kunz, Spartan Vanguard
5730 Academy Blvd N.,
Colorado Springs, CO
80918
Or if you'd prefer to send them directly to me, let me know and I'll PM my home address.
Thanks again!
-
No problem! I'll get them off tomorrow. Probably will send them priority to make sure they get there in time.
-
Final information time!! I want to start check in at 10 30 and game will start at 11. I will be there at 10 if anyone has questions concerns etc. We have been given tables 4 and 5 by troy. Stephan can you please post which side you are on by tomorrow so we can confirm points per side.
-
Sides will need to pick their Grand Admirals too, though i suppose that happens best once everyone shows up and is accounted for :-)
-
Well Zenian has one directorate player and Kurak has 2 aquan so thats easy. the station selection is the hardest part. We (kurak) are going to use a T4 station as either terran or aquan i think.
-
I'll throw in with Kurak.
-
I'll throw in with Kurak.
... to your eternal regret. ;-)
-
That just means a zenian player will need to do two activations every time it comes to there round.

Outstanding! I'm glad they got there. Good luck with the event! I can't wait to see the pictures ;).
-
Thanks to all who played! Full report and such will post in the next few days.
One apology and quick heads-up for everyone who got a certificate:
1) They seem to expire on 31 July. I'm trying to get them extended.
2) At least one winner has gotten a NOT VALID message trying to redeem. I've contacted Spartan, and will relay news as soon as I get it. Please try your coupon code if able (and remember, JUST for the items on the certificate) and let me know if you have a similar issue.
Thank you!
Dale
-
All,
Response from Spartan is that they cannot be extended, and per instructions on the form:
"Please send Product choice, name, delivery address, telephone, email, and voucher number to: marketing@spartangames.com"
Must be some tax thing that it doesn't just work as a coupon code.
-
I sent an e-mail to Spartan about my voucher, asking if they'd be at all willing to give me the Aquan Aerial helix instead of, as specified on the voucher, a Planetfall Allied Helix or Firestorm Destroyer Group. If they refuse, I'll need to order something pronto and I'm hoping I can order something and arrange for a swap with someone eventually for the Aquan Aerial helix. The RSN, Ba'Kash, Hawker, and Veydreth boxes are the best deals since they retail for less than the Aquan Helix (you'd be getting your helix for a discount). Please let me know ASAP if anyone is interested.
-
everything worked out for me. Getting my Heavy Armor helix now.
-
Cool, that's at least three where its worked. :-)
And thanks again to Ruckdog for the dice! Can't wait to break mine in! (Or simply break mine, if they fail me like those reserve Roll dice...)
Full batrep is in works...just slow because of busy work and evenings...

The Battle of Babylon-6
The system was quiet, late into 3rd shift. Only the various agent provocateurs knew what was coming, and all of those had made arrangements to be elsewhere. Station security had only just locked up the last of the late night drunks, when alarms exploded across the status boards. Massive amounts of shunt footprints were suddenly translating into real-space. And not just one attacker, but two battle lines forming almost simultaneously!
Near to the Kurak station, beyond its host planet, a solid wedge of ugly, blunt Dindrenzi ships was powering in. Their lead was a typical hammer shaped Dindrenzi battleship, bristling with assault armaments and breaching pods.
Adjacent to the Dindrenzi, space was merely black, with barely rippling sensor echoes and some small flitting shapes as elements of the Relthozan vanguard moved into position.
Close to the Zenian station on that side was arrayed the proud and dauntless prows of the Rense System Navy, their emblems vividly illuminated in the endless night; while their Protocol Division transmitted inspiring battle hymns and classic human opera on all enemy channels.
And coming from behind the shielded bulk of the Zenian station, sleek and glimmering Directorate ships took up position, their Managers each jockeying for the best face-time displays before the Grand Admiral and Vice President of Local Acquisitions.
Opposing the Dindrenzi was a massive Oannes Battle Carrier, and it

Love the write up Dale. The political intrigue is awesome.

Great write up, great pix, and looks like great fun!
I loved that you incorporated the term "patsy", it's such a funny word.
-
Outstanding, thanks Dale!
