Title: Operation Galvanic Campaign
Post by: CDR-G on April 26, 2014, 12:10:33 am
This topic will be the place to find downloads and specifics about the Operation Galvanic campaign.
The campaign is geared to be a flexible way of playing a variety of scenarios in a loose structure that will allow players to compete over time toward a campaign goals measured in VPs earned.
Players in the campaign can choose to play the scenarios in order, play pick up games, selected scenarios or any combination.
However The scenarios will generate rewards in the form of additional capabilities or ships to use in further scenarios.
The scenario range from simple to complex.
There are still things to resolve for the campaign.
Some of the scenarios could use more play testing.
Starting a campaign will be very close to the release of version 2 of the DW rules. Waiting seems likel a reasonable idea.\The scenarios may need some updating to adjust to new stats, MARs and rules.
So I will try to post the Campaign overview and rules here

I'm ready to begin a narrative campaign.  Are the guidelines ready to be posted?

I need to update the scenarios for version 2.0.
This is quite doable. 2.0 is easy to use for scenarios.
The Historicon reservation did not come through. I am now trying to set up an open game.
Sigh
Busy week on this stuff.

How goes the progress on updating the campaign to 2.0?

Due to a lack of players available, I had put it on hold.
But with some games more likely in the near future I can finish them quickly.

Let me know if you need some help! Also, I should be able to hose the files for you still. I apologize for falling down on that earlier. My schedule is a little less crazy now, so I should be able to do it. I have a lot of bandwidth and disk space on the MBS web account that I would love to start using for stuff like this  8).

Ruckdog, I will indeed like to post them here. I am updating the campaign framework and scenarios.
The scenarios can of course be used independently. I will finish the framework this weekend and submit it to be posted here for response and input. The scenarios will follow though not necessarily in campaign sequence order as some are easier to update than others.
I hope to get Mysterious Island done this weekend as well.
Note TAC Cards and Secondary objectives optional.
Scenario titles, more or less in order:
Mysterious Island- Compete to take a (notionally CoA) island that has a secret laboratories developing tech technologies. The winner can steal a prototype capability which can be applied to one squadron in their fleet. Can be played with a judge or third player (CoA player would have his own benefits, Players who lost the the battle can fight it again with a different opponent)
Take the Straight - Compete to gain control of a critical straight necessary to secure your supply routes into the area. Winner gets to establish a forward base capable of providing Land Based Support Air Wings and more munitions.
Convoy Raid - Raid  a convoy with the aim of prizing ships and destroying the rest. Can be played between two powers or the defender can be a mercenary force protecting local commerce. If played between powers each side can permanently gain valuable operational assets and increased logistics for the next battle. (asymmetric TF point sizes)

Protect the Lady -  Escort an addition of a Dreadnought, Superfortress or Fleet Carrier to your Theater Fleet through a gauntlet of attackers. Defender must exit with at least 50% of the Lady's HP remaining . Scenario VPs for each HP on the Lady. (Note non-standard TF configurations and asymmetric TF Points sizes)

Operational Base - Players fight over control of a port. Winner must drive the loser from the field (attain minimum objectives  and  fleet orders). Winner gains significant Scenario VPs and increases limits on Munitions (possibly eliminate limits), gains additional Local Air. Loser can mitigate Victors gains by destruction of port and air facilities.

Sounds good! What you have so far sounds interesting. If you have a Word document or PDF of them, I can upload them and post a link in this thread.

My campaign rules are ready. It includes summaries of the scenarios.
A bit much but game by game quite manageable.
It could use more editing and some more play testing.
I need to send it MadDrB Directly to get it posted

I Have the draft for the campaign rules, and 5 scenarios ready.
Scenario 1 Mysterious Island, players fight each other and the island defenders to gain important technology
Scenario 2 Take the Straight, secure your line of supply through a critical straight , or degrade your opponent's ability to operate in the area.
Scenario 3 Convoy Raid, grab some much needed supplies and some possible extra ships.
Scenario 4 Island Hopping-Establish a Forward base-Fight another power for control of a small local port and air strip. Before you can go on the offensive you need to secure this base to gain local air support and extend your fighting capability.
Scenario 5 Port Raid, attacker attempts to inflict critical damage on an opponent's Forward Base. Reducing his supplies and the size of his fleet- before delivering the fatal blow.
Scenario 6 All In, the final battle between two Theater Fleets.

I will be posting these on a Google drive.

Scenario 4: Got the islands for this one.  Even a full airfield.

Scenario 5: Hmmm, port.

Scenario 6: Final Battle. Sounds fun.

When you want to set it up? ;)

We can try one at E&E this Saturday. If more people show more than one scenario could be tested.
I will post the scenarios to a Google drive the next two days.

Looking forward to hearing about this one.  I have played Russians most of the time.  They are fun.  And opponents do NOT like ablative armor.

Title: Please review new scenario Operation Galvanic Campaign
Post by: CDR-G on April 29, 2015, 04:52:45 pm
I constructed a new scenario set in the Operation Galvanic environment.
It can be played outside of the campaign. It is designed around the FSA and the LoIS but can be re-engineered for different powers.
Fabius Americanus- named for Fabius Maximus who fought a delaying campaign against Hannibal in his invasion of Italy. Not a direct analogy but you get the idea.
Not a Demo game. Or even a mainstream campaign scenario. This is a complex scenario designed to drive certain tactics and strategy not commonly used in DW, but which have historical examples.
Please review. I am considering it for a convention, but it would need to be experienced players not a demo. I suspect its too complicated for most. I have participated in similar events with this level of complexity with great success.
Still all this is fun for me.

Very interesting read! I will have to spend a little more time digesting it all, but I like the asymmetrical mission objectives and the way that there is a built-in time crunch. If you could include some kind of basic diagram that shows how you intend to lay out the table, that would help a lot, though. I'm having trouble visualizing everything that you describe in the scenario. One thing that concerns me is the line that "carriers have to move full speed ahead to make it off the table in time." As long as that fact is well understood by the FSA player(s), that will be fine, but that objective could easily be forgotten or else a CV could take an "engines damaged" critical that would throw everything out of whack.

I will send a diagram.
I can emphasize the time crunch. Eight turns is a lot.
Possibly too many but at six inches a move the battle ground is too short for a delaying action with fewer turns. The idea is that the FSA needs to commit hard or run.

Truer words have never been spoken about the FSA! Go all in, or go home.  ;D

I have scenario set up photos that will help show the geography.
Go to link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m7856i0u7rn4vno/AAD8GIWAA2UEB-ZT9aqoNWtKa?dl=0
The geography is centered on the strait which crosses the width (short) length of the board with large islands coming in on each edge about 5 inches and that have small (2-3 inches) treacherous areas adjacent, (sand bars and reefs).
There is a Massive (tall, but not overly broad- say 6 to 7 inches)  Mountain in the middle.  There will two islands (about 4-6 inches) with one each between the edge islands and the mountain. These will be set back toward the defender side (Italian side in the photos).
There is a large island on the attacker side (FSA in photos) that can set anywhere along the FSA bombing BG start line. It screen some units but distance to the exit edge will probably make it of marginal use.

One thing that concerns me is the line that "carriers have to move full speed ahead to make it off the table in time." As long as that fact is well understood by the FSA player(s), that will be fine, but that objective could easily be forgotten or else a CV could take an "engines damaged" critical that would throw everything out of whack.
The Bombing BG that has the 6" movers will have 42 inches to go in 8 turns, if they start on their start line. If they go straight through the strait that would allow a 6 inch mover to completely exit the board in eight turns (unless they are longer than six inches). That provides a cushion of 3-4 inches since to qualify as off-the-board a model needs to have more than half its length off the edge.
Possible alternatives--Any model that gets any portion off the edge is considered to have exited as soon as that occurs.
Another modification might allow the attacker (FSA) to exit up to 6 inches in from the far edge on one side of the board. That would be known to both sides.

Here is a map for the scenario. Note:the distance from the start line to the exit edge is 42 inches. The red area denotes the exit area for the Bombers
