Title: June Meet-up?
Post by: Ruckdog on May 24, 2016, 12:45:42 pm
What are you guys feeling for our next get-together? I figure that Memorial Day weekend is probably already booked for most of us, so how does June look? Speaking for myself, June 4th or June 11th probably works best.

Hey there all. Sorry for the radio silence. I can't do the 11th, but have carved out the day of July 9th to game if any are interested? Could be willing to travel for this game as well. Not sure how many others i could round up to bring with so may just be me. Was going to swing by E&E in the next couple days to put it on the cal before anything else comes up. Let me know your thought.

Oh. We have been playing a substantial amount of X Wing lately. Not sure if any of y'all play, but def interested in doing a store game. I have a space map, and a ton of models now. Including the Gonzanti Class Carrier, if there is interest in an epic game. Let me know your thoughts on this as well.

Hmm, OK. I scheduled a different event for this Saturday. But I need to get some games in and set up a demo game. So anything happening over Historican?

Hey all! I'm going with a tentative Yes for this Saturday if you want to come over. One of our boys had a medical procedure this week, though (I'm typing this from the hospital), so I might have to scrub depending on whether he goes home tomorrow as planned or not.

Sorry guys, I have to scrub tomorrow. I was just made aware of a family obligation tomorrow afternoon.   :(

Any interest in the 9th?
Title: Re: June Meet-up?

The 9th is the Weekend before Historicon. This suits me well. Where would you plan to meet? E&E I assume, if thee is room.
There is a Jutland style battle as a Historicon event. Dreads and BBs.
Title: Re: June Meet-up?
Post by: Ruckdog on June 22, 2016, 06:22:02 am
The 9th should be good for me as well. I should be able to make it to E&E.

I will post a couple of fleet lists- Just for grins
Let me know what you think.
I will start a new thread on the Spartan Day I still plan to do after Historicon.
I have a demo scenario that envisions drop in players. Looking for feedback on that.

Great! I need to get a list together as well. E&E works for me, just need to make sure a table is clear. If it's crowded I don't mind traveling for a game.

I'm still clear for the 9th as well! Are we going to try and continue the Galvanic campaign?

Forgot that the store was closed yesterday so will have to call again today.

I will be there around 13:00 or 14:00.  Think ill have something to do?

I was going to try to get there around noon, but 13:00 works fine. Right now we are even, but i am all for a group game if we want to try that. Doesn't really matter to me. I'll prob end up bringing the Brits again so would love the assistance haha.
Title: Re: June Meet-up?
Post by: Ruckdog on July 06, 2016, 08:35:02 am
I've also posted it on the E&E gamers Facebook page, and I messaged Doug on Facebook about getting it on the store's Facebook events list. I don't really think that will generate more players, but hopefully it will help keep a couple of tables free for us on Saturday.

Definitely planning on shorts and a t-shirt! It's going to be a warm one this weekend.
Title: Re: June Meet-up?
Post by: Last Rites on July 06, 2016, 04:37:52 pm
Just called and they already have a table set aside!

Good call on getting in the FB. Anything to get more bodies. I'll try to get there by 12, and will have the models I can find again since the last round the Brits and perhaps some Americas.
Title: Re: June Meet-up?
Post by: CDR-G on July 06, 2016, 11:17:31 pm
I will post it on the DW/Spartan FB sites- again doubt that it will generate any new players, but it might in the future.

Title: Re: June Meet-up In July on the 9th
Post by: CDR-G on July 07, 2016, 12:08:16 am
The scenario, will adjust as needed to player needs.
Note: Ruck dog gets 5 local air in any scenario.
Let me know any thoughts on the scenario?

Queen’s Gambit
The scenario I had in mind was a variation on Queen's Gambit, --ambushing a Massive fleet carrier or Sky fortress, up to 300 points, and with a total of at least nine saw. Escorted by a heavy BB and whatever else people want that makes a legal fleet.
4 x 6 or 4 x 4 foot board- random terrain. Defender sets up with all models within 16 inches of the center and the carrier no closer than 4 moves to a chosen edge. That becomes the exit/safe edge

Defender fleet: 1,005 points, only 'target' carriers, no other carriers allowed.  Must have at least 9 carrier(s) points and one heavy BB or equivalent.
See substitutes and fixes for specific power options.  SAS Support Squadrons allowed.

Optional Starting turn 3 any defending squadron within 8 inches of exit/safe board edge can request local air support from one of two 5 SAW SAS squadrons that enter from the safe board edge. SAS can be any type, but must return off board to enact carrier actions. They cannot use the defender's carriers unless they are closer to them than to the safe edge.
They are activated during an onboard squadron's activation and are eligible to attack or become CAP if in range.

Attacker 1,100 points. Places second- moves first. Turn order as normal after 1st turn.
Sets up no more than 50% of fleet up to 8 inches from a chosen edge but no closer than 24 inches from Target Carrier(s). The other 50% can set up as first turn late arrivals on any chosen edge, excluding defender's exit safe edge, but also no closer than 24 inches to the targets.
The Attacker can choose to have 50% of his fleet enter as a flanking force on the any edge other than the safe edge on turn two.  No composition limits.
Optional: All generator upgrades are free or three free escorts
Suggest taking your best boarding fleet.

Attacker must CAPTURE and have control of target carriers at the scenario end. Sinking it results in a tie broken by a total points lost, and no one gets any bennies.
The defender may be able to take two carriers-see substitutions and fixes
If the defender keeps target carrier(s) in his possession after 4 or 5 turns (agreed on by players) and it is operational with at least 3 carrier points and one non-recon squadron, they win.
Attacker wins if he captures an operational carrier. If there are two carriers he must control at least one operational carrier while the second carrier is either scrapped or non-operational.
If each player controls one operational carrier each it is a tie.

Success -
Winner no longer has any limitations on local air.
Winner gets the use of the carriers in his fleet- for the attacker that would be a captured carrier using the One Careful Owner rules, and per campaign rules it can be taken free in your fleet in future battles. However it can never be replaced.
Scenario rule - The captured carrier's HP is permanently reduced by 1 for every 3 damage when captured.

Substitutes and fixes
Ottomans can take a LOIS Affondatore complete with MTBs. I have one to use.
FSA can take one Superfortress, or two Saratogas
EIMC can use two Support blimps/5 SAW SAS attached or a KoB fleet Carrier, I have one if needed
Prussians- Elbe, or two Imperium (sorry don't have any, can proxy if desired)
LoIS- Affondatore
French- Vauban - generators cost double. I have one if needed
RC Kostroma - Can take two but then generators cost double I have them as well.
All mercs and minors can take a fleet carrier of a close ally or the LoIS Affondatore like the Ottomans

Sounds like it could be a fun scenario; I'd be willing to try it anyway! I do not have the required models to be the defender as the Prussians, though.

Break-Break

@Last Rites, I plan on being at the store by noon as well. If you want, we can try out the Fleet Action rules, or just hang out.

@Ruckdog I can be there at noon to check out the new rules.

Sounds interesting on the campaign, is it just 1v1?
Title: Re: June Meet-up?
Post by: CDR-G on July 09, 2016, 12:25:33 am
I should be around noon as well, traffic allowing.
The scenario was designed as  1v1. I imagined two scenarios going. That said, the standard Campaign way to split it three ways is to split attackers and increase points for each by 50 and then have them compete for the win. In other words, chaos.
I will bring some LoIS Affondatores ( with SAS and MTBs to sub for any missing Fleet carriers Its a BB and Carrier in one and should be tough to take.
I will also have a RoF Attacker fleet ready to go as well as my FSA.
I guess I am interested in the Fleet Action. My initial read on what I have seen is that it is Firestorm but for DW. Lots of changes to firing, damage and boarding--So far--Meh. But we will see if you like. Perhaps a short small game?

Longing has Ottomans-Correct?

I plan to set up a game at Historicon.  A version of the Vauban game.
Simply eliminate the Vauban in four turns, two Grand alliance forces, one trailing and one intercepting. Guest appearances by small but powerful Mercenary and Pirate forces that can drop in or out of the game. They will gain by picking off (capturing) wounded/weak units from either side.
Looking at Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Ruck dog, might we try the Fleet Action rules before the 6th? I am trying to find out if I like them.
Title: Re: June Meet-up? Historicon events
Post by: CDR-G on July 20, 2016, 08:08:52 am
Played the Jutland  game- A line of Dreadnoughts and BBs.
One side had two FSA Enterprises with shields, an Independence with rockets, a Liberty with rockets,  A KoB Dread with a Guardian generator (3/2), (which covered the Liberty) a KoB BB and a SQUADRON of two KoB BCs all in a tight line 31 inches from my side that had RoF and Prussians. We had a (I played the French) Mark I Magenta with guns and a Mark II Magenta with the Heat lance, a Charlemagne, A Blucher, two Emperors, a third BB (Kaiser Karl?) and a Squadron of two Koningsbergs.
the Charly , teleported the Independence on its first activations, the Prussian BCs hurt the KoB BB and a KoB BC, emperors did very little until the end and the Blucher did little on its first turn (3 Dice/turret) but hurt them after that. The FSA big boys basically whiffed on the Charly the first turn (whew) as did his Liberty.
More later Gotta go to work- but suffice to say the French/Prussians won

Title: Re: June Meet-up? Historical events AAR continued
Post by: CDR-G on July 20, 2016, 09:43:08 pm

The allied line was lead by the KoB and then the FSA.
We were in a line with he BCs and Prussians at the front and the Magentas at the end. All the Prussians took Shields and Tesla generators when available- Emperors get Shields (3). T
I thought they would crush us. Magentas instead of a least one La Rochelle? Hmmm, I don't think he had the model. We did have one more ship. That said the Emperors were completely useless the first 1 1/2 turns, shooting 5 dice.

The Kob BCs had gone first in the game and had done small damage to the Prussian BCs.
The Prussian had started off with the BCs hitting the KoB BB hard. The Kob BB turned in to attack the Kaiser Karl and the BCs-- and bounced. Damage and crits were already having an effect. The KK followed up by closing and putting more hurt on the poor KoB BB. It was not going well for the allies. A lot of  counter punching ships after they came in Range.
The KoB Dread turned to shoot and did little, The rear turrets were masked and the torps bounced off the CC and shields of an Emperor.

I had closed with the French dread and struck the Small FSA BB getting two crits and rolling 12 on the second, sending the Independence 8 inches left on the far side of their gun line. This seemed to dishearten the Allies. I thought it a minor victory and the best result they could expect from the natural 12 I rolled. It took 5 HP and a minor CH- either AP or steering-pretty light considering. AP was not going to come into play in this game- at least if the judge could help it. I dreaded (sorry) the counter blows from the FSA dreads. But one whiffed and the the hit a Magenta for a single HP. They were combining rockets vice launching two volleys. The Cloud generator and Retardant Armor came through. The rockets did nothing. I left the Magentas till last.  One did a crib effect but only one HP- more Nav lock.
They went first in the second round and pounced on our BCs with their BCs and attacked the KK. They hit one BC for minor damage. Our BCs struck back hurting one of theirs and,...you guessed it slamming the KoB BB. The FSA dread hit my Dread and got a crit, rolled a 7 for 1 AP. I hit the untouched FSA Dread with the French Dread Heat lance and took out his generators. No Shields! By the end of the second turn they had two FSA Dreads, with 5 and 6 points each. The KoB BB was scrapped- finished off by an Emperor. One BC was trashed and barely afloat. The KoB Dread had only a point or two on it. But, the final straw was the Prussians trashing the Liberty and it blowing up-  a magazine explosion that put points on the KoB Dread and an FSA Dread-- the Allies conceded.

Coalition had no ships scrapped.  My French Dread had 3 hits, one Magenta had two points, and the Prussians
BC had 3 point each, 3-4 points on the Prussian KK nothing on the Prussian Dread or the Emperors.
It was short and sharp.
Title: Re: June Meet-up Historicon demo scenario
Post by: CDR-G on July 20, 2016, 11:30:22 pm
The Scenario had a couple of players wanting re-aquaint with DW V2. One was Store owner that could never get a U.S. distributor that was reliable.
The French Vauban had a super squadron, Ecuyer attachment, three Bayone escorts, and a two Vulcan repair ships. It also had one 5 or 4 SAS squadron CAP. Protected by a La Rochelle and squadrons of 3 Dieppes, 4 Lyons, a Rousseau bomber. Powerful. The FSA had a Liberty with a kinetic generator, a Reinforced Cruiser Squadron, a B-72, 4 Guilfords, 4 Augustas and a Saratoga with a 5 and a 4 SAS squadron. These start over twenty-four inches off the Vauban's starboard quarter. A bit far. The FSA had a second force coming in from ahead of the convoy. This had a second Liberty with as shield, an Annapolis, a San Francisco, a Boston and 4 Augustas. It never got into Play the RoF forces shredded the FSA. The Liberty moved fast with the help of the K-Generator and it took out a Dieppe in one activation. But then the French struck back the Rousseau attacked and got a crit hit. Then the Lyons, followed by the Vauban- it sank. The Rousseau The only unit really close enough, was scrapped, along with two Lyons. The Vauban and the La Rochelle moved away the FSA were just too far away. The game was called after the b-72 was killed.
Nice try.

I will playing a DW game with a guy from Martinsburg, WV on Saturday. We are Plying at Huzzah Hobbies in Ashburn. I will let you know how it goes. 1500 points my LoIS against his FSA ( including a Dread.) Playing the Take the Straight scenario, cause that's what he wanted. Should be an easy FSA win with a Dread coming on late and taking one channel- we will see. Can the LoIS take one Channel?
I will be at the Thursday session of NOVA next week. Playing the beginners tourney of Firestorm Armada.
I may be able to drop in Saturday.

played a game at Huzzah Hobbies. Long trip about longer than E&E, but not much.
Played Take the Straight. I won, but It was as much to do with ending after turn three than any real clear victory. He had two Liberty HBBs and a half damaged Savanah  so he could have contested bothe channels. But I cleared one and had more Hit Points in ships in the other.
It went well, fairly fast.
Italians- gotta love those shields.

So sorry, would have like to see a Halo game.
At some point some of the guys in the DC Area might meet there? Pretty much straight out 66 in the Ashburn area, near GW University. Nice store, lots of gaming space. I will try to set-up a meet with him and possibly a player he knows at E&E in the future. He also plays Drop Zone Commander.
