General Discussion / Re: MBS Podcast Episode 41

Thanks for the RED ALERT review! I'm right at the end of the review, but basically you've saved me from a game I wouldn't enjoy :-)
I do like the Command and Colors system, loved BATTLELORE. But in terms of space ship combat, not a good fit for me AT ALL. I'd rather play that old RISK fleet game :-)
But when looking at RED ALERT and all the supplements at the LGS, I was really really tempted.

On the downside, I'm still without an "active" space game. Any BFG is probably year(s) off, still no sign of a Droid Control Ship for SW Armada, and BSG isn't the fleet scale I really want. Maybe I'll have to play some WAR ROCKET to tide me over :-)

New Trump tariffs to hit the games industry … HARD
https://www.belloflostsouls.net/2019/05/rpg-new-tariffs-to-hit-games-books-printed-in-china.html

https://comicbook.com/gaming/2019/05/14/board-games-dice-miniatures-us-tariffs/

Sounds like KS backers could get hit first.

Many Companies and LGS's would likely struggle to adapt customers to a 25% price hike. Feels like a guaranteed cooling of a hot industry, and we'll see a lot simply fail.

…  enough clones to field the entire Grand Army of the Republic.

But you'll set aside those emergency powers as soon as the crisis is passed, right? That's what Jar Jar promised for my vote in the Senate.

We definitely need a Pakled expansion for Star Trek Ascendancy.

"We find things … things to make us go"

I think Stephan and I had a discussion once on how they'd work for Ascendancy. I don't remember much but here's some ideas:
-- All their Science Cards just say "Copy another race's advancement card effects" at Cost 3.
-- Like the Ferengi don't get Culture, they don't build Science Nodes beyond their first (and they can always build Prod instead of Science). They may buy Science at a cost of 3 Production to 1 Science. (Or is that too harsh? 2-1? 1-1?)
-- They cannot Hegemonize normally
-- They count any Trade Agreement as providing one more resource than what is shown
-- They cannot build Starbases, but can manufacture and form fleets on any of their colonies
-- One of their Fleet cards allows a 1-command Hegemonic takeover of Warp capable independent systems, costing a ship instead of a Culture (they give them an offer they can't refuse)
-- Another Battle Fleet card counts as matching either Shields or Phasers stat of the enemy

And I woulda had that Punic if it wasn't for those meddling Pelicans! And your crazy accurate point defense (I was rolling 6 hits on 18 dice barrages, while Greg averaged 8 hits on 6 dice every time I tried to board!)

I wonder if they'll do the Trade Federation tank? It was a pretty good-sized vehicle, but would be good to have. Legion is more of an infantry and light-vehicle game though...big heavies are expensive and limited (but still cool).

I used to own the toy for that tank, which was actually pretty close or at 25-30mm scale. I used it for 40K Eldar, as a Wave Serpent back in the day. Sadly, it went in a garage sale years ago - but you could assuredly find one online.

I'll see if I can clear for the 18th.
And I'd be utterly new to 2.5 as well. Does anyone have the rules link handy?

I suppose I'll proxy, but what it made we *want* to do is
"Sell off all remaining Spartan stuff; and treat anything Warcradle does as a brand new game fighting for my attention"

There's a bit of wait and see in all that - are there clear analogs/matches between old and new, etc. But if the WC position is "Ditch the old models for a our new game"  … that doesn't bring me along AT ALL.

Would be cool to see a Gungan army though.

Aren't they the next release for Deep Wars? ;-)

General Discussion / Re: What are you reading?
« on: April 12, 2019, 05:21:40 pm »
A little past halfway through TIAMAT'S WRATH (Expanse Book 8 ), and already I don't think I have any jaw left to drop. And that was before the most recent chapters.
Yesterday morning, if I'd been reading a physical book instead of listening in the car, I'd have thrown the book at something … preferably a shredder. By this morning, I was cackling with glee. There is no doubt these guys learned their craft from GRRM (except that they'll manage 9 books in ten years)

I *really* hope Amazon can pull together season 4, and keep this going through Season 9+.

I am looking for the DW Invaders rules. Would anyone have a download??

Thanks

I'll try to find them when I'm home next. Stephan definitely should have them too.
