You can pry my destroyers and corvettes from my cold dead hands, they were great in DW 2.0.

I've got to admit, they don't seem all that bad to me. The trireme-like ram bows seem a bit odd, but other than that I feel like they are pretty decent designs. I think they will work out fine, though I'm curious to see how the artwork will eventually translate into 3D models.

If they turn out anything like the CoA whale ship, poorly.

I dislike that they got rid of the elegant hullform and subtle artistic details like the greek pillars and arched windows, the stacked turrets inspired by the USS Kearsarge (The exact sort of real world pre-dreadnought lunacy that made DW great)- and replaced it with a pile of riveted scrap.

In isolation each Prussian ship isn't terrible (except those turrets that are just nonsensical), but as a whole, they look awful- it's the same ship scaled up/down! Also dislike how they took a cool one-off concept from the Spartan days and just said "all prussian ships are that now".

As for coal in the stocking, the supposed Italian ships posted on the facebook page really are godawful.

Okay tier
Too many random lumps.

Meh tier
Plutarch but worse.

Bad tier
"Just whack a drone launcher on it"

Straight garbo tier
Looks like someone kitbashed a boat from warmachine reject parts.

It looks like they're not even trying with the fine detail on most of them- aren't those meant to be pistons behind the A turret on the cruiser? A lot of the angles seem totally random, too- the prow on those cruisers looks a total mess.
Actually, the longer I look the more I dislike these. Why do the turrets look like someone tried to make a CoA e-turret out of marshmallows?

You could replace the Weyland copyright with Privateer Press 2006 and I'd believe it. It's kinda soulless.

I'd play if there was anyone near me to play with. Thought about trying to build up a local community, but doing that all over again starting from no-one and a dead game...

We don't delete negative opinions despite what you imply.

More than £12 for a single surfaced/submerged pair of a submarine I've already paid for? Nah.

EDIT: Actually, what's with the arbitrary prices? £2.30 for a submerged boston, £6.30 for a submerged praxilla, £10 for a submerged magadan.

Richard of Warcradle commented -  "I don’t think we at any point have said pieces printed and painted for demo of the game rules are production models. They are simply for demonstration purposes." So,, since it's similar to the comments about FSA's return and artwork thereof, it seems Warcradle policy.

I didn't see them say they weren't, either. Why would they do a large demonstration at GenCon of all places with placeholder models? And then choose a facebook discussion thread to clarify? FB is terrible for actually getting anything seen.

Close up of the CoA cruiser. It's okay.
  • Why is it lumpy? Not just the lumps on the side, but the aft of the hull between the engines looks bulbous too.
  • Why are there so many random segmented plates- like behind the bridge/large turrets and under the fore broadside mounts?
  • Why are there so many random portholes? Two rows behind the broadside mounts look wierd, as does the single one crammed in between the front broadside and where all those plates meet.
  • Seems to be lacking those little details too, like hatches- how does anyone get to the foredeck around the fore turret?
  • Where are the smokestacks? The sweeping upward line of smokestacks has been mentioned in design documents as part of the whole CoA "ascendant" theme.
The longer I look the more I see that I dislike, ended up having to bullet point them for clarity. It's lacking the consistency and passion of old CoA models.

Its a pity Warcradle won't share any decent pictures, instead leaving it to fans to get potato shots that many not do the ships justice.
Maybe they're embarrassed.

You can just make out a CoA cruiser in the top right of the last screenshot- looks more like a CoA ship, except lumpier. Hard to make out any detail or lack thereof.

While we're showing DW things we made, here's a 3D model I was working on for a landship-themed game.
We'll make our own DW! With scratch builds and 3D models!

However, it looks like the Spartan games are being shelved after an early burst of enthusiasm for something short term.

Wouldn't be surprised if WC were expecting a much more positive fan reception than they got, and had plans based on more of the fanbase flooding back than actually happened.

Probably not play at all due to the difficulty of getting players for a dead game, put my models in a display case and stare wistfully at them.

Otherwise, play 2.0 if I find anyone to play with.
