There is a bill in Congress that seeks to force the naval rank structure on USSF, who knows if it will go anywhere though!

Time for the Nerd Nation to make their power known!!!

Origins of names rarely square with common-place usage, so Naval terms are no different. And maybe blame Weber - he loves using Dreadnought as a class in the HH series.

And besides, what would you call something bigger than a Battleship?
Super-Battleship sounds silly, while somehow Superdreadnought sounds bad-ass.

I will say the idea of Destroyers being smaller than Cruisers always bugged me. A Destroyer should live up to its name, and have firepower only second to a battleship or bigger.

What worries me more is what Rank structure will Space Force use? Since they're coming from the Air Force, their ranks will be "baked in" at the start. But the second there's a space-Ship to command, you want that person to be a Captain ... Colonel would just sound way off.
And for that matter, what Air Force terms even are there for Ships? -Fighter / Bomber / Fighter-Bomber / Tanker? None of those work!

They're dangling weird hope now in that some fleets furthest from the Unity (and with older ships) start developing independence. We'll see ...

Space Whales I was really digging.

I was totally geeking out over the Relthoza design pics too... until I read this:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/firestormarmada/permalink/3282796558398202/

So the Relthoza faction as I knew it is essentially gone, assimilated by the Unity Pathogen (and not even the fun Unity like on Rick and Morty).
I wanted to play hyper-intelligent singing space spiders ... not YAB (Yet Another Borg).

Anyone want an old fleet cheap? :-(

On movement, I think the hope for all space miniatures games is to find a way to capture the feel of 3D movement in a way that is playable.  I've yet to see a system that really captures it.  It's just a limitation of the medium we're in.

That's really the holy grail of all our space games … fingers crossed.

The FAQ and discussion over on Black Ocean has me slightly fired up, enough to inventory what I have left.

Waiting eagerly to see what the new Relthoza look like

And very curious where the Syndicate fall in all this - part of the A'Quan maybe?

Adepticon won't be affected much, but summer Cons might see a real hit from the ongoing pandemic. Many profession-based conventions in Denver, especially involving Int'l travel, have been outright cancelling.

Bring HALO to KoboldCon, and we'll at least do a pick-up game :-) I do still enjoy that system.

If Stephan can bring his War Rocket down, or I can borrow Forrest's stuff, we can do a learning game at K-Con or otherwise. This will motivate me to finish War Fleet Ajax …

And I recently found another Dindrenzi Fleet, and still have my Syndicate, if you ever want a Firestorm match for old times sake.  :-)

I look forward to the BSG event at K-Con!

Dropfleet would be a stretch locally, but let me know how it develops. With recent GW news that a BFG reboot isn't even in work yet, that's years away at best. So I need me a damn spaceship game … <looks at WAR ROCKET ships...>

Oak and Iron will probably have a strong following down here for Historicals Sundays

Good episode, and I like the focus on the lack of a coherent Sci Fi Fleet game.
SW Armada has disappointed me, as most local players flock to the FFG "wombo-combo" style of play. Also the lack of Prequel ships, as you mention. They could win me back in with prequels ships, and a new starter for such, but I'm not holding my breath.
Ditto on the lack of Dropfleet on shelves. I dunno what their "strategy" is, but even the LGS owners they haven't alienated don't/won't carry it locally.
I wish game systems I know are solid, like War Rocket on the simple end, and FULL THRUST on the complex end, could find investment to push them out like a Class A game. Because the key is always - what does everybody else want to play? I can always find someone for a retro game play, like breaking out the Babylon 5. But for something to feel new and relevant and truly satisfying, you need that variety of locals engaged.

If I had ONE wish for 2020, its simply that Battlefleet Gothic returns, and NOT in a one box, or two faction format, but as a planned ongoing game encompassing all the factions. As a 30K setting, I might accept it... but Lady please, don't make it boutique prices like Adeptus Titanicus.

I probably need to circle back to the Battlestar game  - what I really wish is someone would graft that movement system onto a fleet level, varying weapons profile, kind of game.

I do plan to get the Oak and Iron stuff when the LGS gets their retailer sets in … so I look forward to your discussions about it. And with your enthusiasm, I'll give Cruel Seas a second look.

News and Rumors / Galactica 2020

Normally I'd make mockery of this news … like "Perhaps Katee Sackhoff and Jamie Bamber will drive flying motorcycles around modern day LA..."

But Sam Esmail as showrunner? His work is absolutely sublime on MR ROBOT, so he could knock anything to do with Cylon-Human identity puzzles out of the park.

Dang Prussians...When you have time I’d like to see a pic of the Dystopian Wars terrain. Not sure which set it is from your description above.

Any word on those Dindrenzi Dale? I’ve been on the hunt for V2 Dindrenzi for awhile. A lot of V1 out there.

They're a combo leaning to V1. Also I have an IM offer on the side for them :-)
