Space Naval Games / Re: Full Thrust

Yes, practically any miniatures can be used - I've seen games played with AMT/Ertl Star Trek models on a basketball court as the board! - But one thing about FSA ships, they are larger 'scale' than the usual FT 'scale'. My solution for using them with the usual scaled ships such as Ground Zero Games ones is the same as for BFG ships in the game; Consider them one classification larger than advertised for their original setting. So, Frigates move up to Destroyers, light Cruisers move to Heavy Cruisers, and Battleships become Dreadnoughts.

I find it rather suffocating for conversation, but different strokes for different folks.

Suffocating? You mean you get banned for personal abuse?

Given the broad definition of "Abuse" which includes "negativity" and "pessimistic attitudes", then yes, that could seem pretty suffocating. :)

Space Naval Games / Re: What Makes Good Space Navy Game?
« on: December 25, 2017, 06:43:23 pm »
For me, the following make a good space naval combat game -

1. Good background story, or at least one that is relatable and open to fine details. Full Thrust wins in this case, as while there is broad mapping of major powers, minor forces fit into the joints and allow players to fill in with their own ideas.

2. Variety of weapons. Not every species will reach the same conclusions about what technology is best, so there are going to be differences in technology. SFB and Full Thrust have this and it works well, because nobody has Uberweapons but forces aren't simply same-old same-old. To some extent, Colonial Battlefleet also does that as well.

3. Ease of play. I don't want to simulate exacting mathematical calculations of movement, though I'd like some of the basic physics to be included, as FT does rather nicely in both Cinematic and Vector movement versions; Starfire doing the same as Cinematic and justifying it with its technology. Damage Control and determining results of fire is also how I decide on a game system, and FT is again a big winner, though CBF and even Firestorm Armada come close there.

Still playing Full Thrust when I get the chance - usually FB2 rather than Continuum, though some of the latter's rule improvements really are improvements, so that's always great.  And yes, also a Dirtside II player and have even played combined games.

Not a lot of players on the board here though it would seem.

Stuart,
since it's a bit tricky to get info out of Britannia, I figured I'd ask you as well:
Where exactly is that facebook-whatever where you've commented on things?

If you are on Facebook, trying joining https://www.facebook.com/groups/dystopian.wars.and.legions/ All the Warcradle and Wayland Games staff are now moderators, and frequently make comments. Heck, Stuart even makes comments on my personal page and other page posts at times . . .

Two DW fluff items that stand out as odd to me:
France and Prussia as allies
And China as a minor ally to japan

And how about Greece as part of the Ottoman/Persian/Egyptian complex? Sounds like there's a lot of Xerxes fanboys at Warcradle :)

Fracas does have a great plan here and i think it's a lot closer to the original in style if not the substance.

I really think Warcradle are aiming to capitalize on what's popular at the moment in gaming, notably Cold War Era gaming with Team Yankee and so forth, and while that might be a move that some people will welcome - Most especially those who previously criticized DW for being too much like World War Two in political alignment and operation - it doesn't seem to sit right with the background aspects of the original game. Of course, that game is pretty much gone as Warcradle are now determined to leave their mark on it ( Although it seems more like they are using DW to shore up WWX by all the changes being made, which are more to bring the former background into alignment with the latter ).

Also, the worrying thing for DW players is how the Warcradle staff seem to lack a lot of knowledge about naval gaming, specifically logistics and tactics . . .
