News and Rumors / Re: Status of Spartan Games
« on: September 28, 2017, 12:38:54 pm »
Thank you for reaching out and I can honestly state this is the best news many of us that are fans of Spartan have heard since the implosion.

I'm very heartened to see these systems preserved and I'd like to caution fans to temper their excitement/impatience as these are large ranges, complex systems and invariably in an asset purchase out of bankruptcy, some things will be disrupted or even misplaced. I expect to see very little until sometime in 2018 and that is OK.

To those burnt on the Kickstarter or other pre-orders. I got 100% of my investment back by disputing the charges through my credit card company (via PayPal). If you have not contacted your CC and tossed it into dispute, do so now, as in today. There is a finite limit timewise but generally you can be made whole.

You can save that refunded money for the new guys! :)

I think there is a decent chance some of the IP gets picked up in receivership. The Halo license might be too pricey for all but the Fantasy Flight/Wizard type companies but DW, Firestorm and Planetfall can likely be gotten fairly cheap.

Historical Naval Games / Re: Vikings

From what I've read Viking naval combat was essentially pure boarding actions. With big enough ship models or simply paper cut outs, I would think you could even use SAGA rules.

Are you familiar with the Massie books "Dreadnought" and "Castles of Steel"? It sounds as if those would be right up your alley.

I just played a 75 ship Posiedon's Warriors game a couple of weeks ago. I posted a couple of those pictures in the gallery.

Great to see you here. I don't know the laws in your neck of the woods but I disputed the Kickstarter charges with my credit card company and got everything back.

For what it's worth, I disputed the Spartan KS charge that I had run through on a credit card via PayPal when they went toes up and got my money back today.

Historical Naval Games / Re: Poseidon's Warriors- A Review
« on: September 06, 2017, 12:47:31 pm »
We played a game at Haven in CO Springs two Sundays ago. 75 ships (Tumbling Dice 1/2400) Greeks v Persians. Two players brand new to both naval and Poseidon's Warriors played to conclusion in under 2.5 hours,

These are quick but flavorful rules. Easy to learn and teach.

I added a couple of pictures in the gallery.

Picked it up Friday and just getting into it but it is, so far, very cool with a very BSG feel to the game.

For what it is worth, I was in the DW Focus group and there wasn't any vitriol. For that matter, while there might be a touch of snark here and there on the main DW Forums, overall it was a really well behaved group united by a real enjoyment of the game and overall a solid level of support for Spartan with the occasional touch of understandable frustration at delays and scattered focus with so many systems.

Oh well. I've tossed my DW Kickstarter into dispute with the CC Company and will watch various markets and sell off the painted and unpainted stuff over time. BFG still sells for between tolerable and good prices depending and so will DW , FSA and Halo. Some of the stuff they really lagged on such as Legions or Uncharted will be a bit harder to liquidate.

I've committed to a 28mm WSS some Sunday in September at Haven but otherwise September is open. I won't know which Sunday is spoken for until the 27th of this month.

I'd be open but one game a month is probably my speed.

Firestorm Armada / Re: FSA Kickstarter
« on: August 15, 2017, 01:21:27 pm »
I'm already wallet deep in the DW Kickstarter with a Fleet Admiral pledge plus a ton of add ons. I'd be tempted but since I've not received anything on the DW side, I'm skipping the FSA one.

I'm not particularly irked at Spartan as I expected delays (as with almost all KS) but I'm simply not paying for Kickstarter 2 when I've not received Kickstarter 1 yet.
