Title: Modern Naval Combat Rules
Post by: Ruckdog on January 08, 2015, 10:06:22 am
I've been thinking about putting together a small collection of modern naval vessels for gaming purposes...other than Harpoon, of course, does anyone know of a good modern naval combat rules system?

There is Shipwreck - Rules for sale (https://www.wargamevault.com/product/188066/Shipwreck) and Discussion Group on Yahoo Groups (https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/shipwreck_game/info).

Lol no worries, though I'd prefer if you start a new thread next time. They're free!  ;)

Anyway, it depends on what you mean by "best." If you are looking for a detailed, crunchy, simulation-like experience, then Harpoon is still the gold standard I think. Harpoon V just released, and you can get a free fast-play document that demos the mechanics over on Wargame Vault.

However, if you are looking for something "lighter" - that is, less detailed and "accurate," but faster and eaiser to play, then there are plenty of options. One I particularly enjoy is called Naval Command, by Rory Crabb:

Yeah, Harpoon is a bit too much for me.... I am looking more Dystopian Wars and that is NOT Harpoon.  :)
