That sounds like a great idea, Stephan. I guess we would need to build the pyramids, which would be pretty easy...any ideas for the Sphinx?

For background fluff, we could say that a massive source of sturginium has been discovered underneath the entire area where the pyramids and Sphinx are located (maybe that's why the ancient Egyptians built them there???), and land forces from several nation-states have been dispatched to secure the area. For victory conditions, maybe something like whoever has at least X number of points within 6" of the center of the complex for three consecutive turns wins?

We could fool around with some house rules too. Here's a goofy idea off the top of my head:

If you can draw a line from your weapon systems thru your target to any part of the pyramids or the Sphinx, you have to reroll all of the misses from your initial dice pool. If you score two or more hits on this reroll, the structure behind your intended target was also hit, and the firing model is subject to an immediate boarding assault (conscript-level boarders) from the locals who are angry that you have damaged their religious monuments!

Pyramids aren't over Sturginium deposits, they ARE Sturginium deposits.
(They have to be spaceship landing pads after all...)

Any energy weapons fired at a target with 6" of the pyramid gain a second shot at half dice on the original target, as they arc, BUT if they miss (fail to break DR) the shot rebounds off the pyramid - the attacker has the full shot rerolled against them!

If the Nile were in flood, it would be huge enough to count as the whole board for the water battle...

I was thinking along those same lines for the water table Dale.  Then the big ships could provide Indirect Fire support to the land table and the heavies on the land table could do the same back at them.  The game turns won't be linked, so from each tables perspective the incoming fire would be random.

I like the random fire effect. That would add an interesting element to the game.

What nations would be best suited thematically for a land/naval engagement in Egypt? I know we're limited to the fleets that we all own, but which ones would make the most sense? I can certainly see the RoF, Ottomans, and Italians getting involved, and possibly even the British. But would it make sense for the Chinese to be there? Or the FSA or Prussians or Japanese?

Some updates:

Events not registered yet, but soon. Time just ran out this weekend.

I have ordered the HALO and Dystopian Wars Tourney/Event Kits for the Con. Out of my own pocket for now, but I'll likely just tack on a little to the event fee to recoup. They were ~ $25 each including postage, so that adds $5 or less to the event cost, but everyone gets something! BLING!!!
(Greg, we can coord on HALO...)

When Firestorm and Planetfall release later this summer, I'll get those too.

And I've ordered the Battle for Iceland, so more terrain for the DW scenario ... (Because what's the Nile without an oil platform...)

Firestorm will be exactly Ryjak's 600pt format.

Planetfall will be a 2500pt event, but I'll tweak down Zero Hour from the Adepticon scenarios. I'm tempted to go 3000pts, but to prevent time bloat, I was thinking of making an activation limit as well, maybe encouraging use of Leviathans, etc.

What nations would be best suited thematically for a land/naval engagement in Egypt?

If we posit the Sturginium-dug equivalent of the Suez Canal ... and perhaps a variation that connects directly to the Nile, then ANY Nation has an interest there. Especially China.

Roger on the Halo kit, thanks for ordering.

Yeah, I think we can make just about any justification for factions in Egypt, I was just curious.

Regarding scenery...I can make some weapons platforms to defend the oil platform. I have the military installation set that has the weapons emplacements, and I have several of those little plastic tripods that are used in large pizza boxes to keep the lid off the cheese...they are pretty close to the right scale, and with some paint and greeblies I can mount those weapons emplacements on them. The emplacements are slightly larger than the top flat area of the tripods, but a little plasticard and some greenstuff should make it all work quite nicely.

And now I have a reason to paint up my FSA and RoF land forces!

Still no kits arriving, but any day now. And I'll turn around and order the Firestorm and Planetfall kits once the first batch gets here.

She Who must be Obeyed has approved my use of Labor Day Weekend. So I need to finalize my event registrations this week. So ONE MORE TIME through the schedule:

Thurs: No plans, but I'll probably head in for pick-up stuff. If anyone's down for games, let me know. Might be a good time for weird stuff like breaking out the old Bab-5 game

Friday:
-- Daytime: Planetfall Tournament (3000pts, 12 Activation limit (not counting transports) )
-- Evening (5PM late enough?) - Dystopian Wars Scenario Game

Saturday Evening: Firestorm Patrol Event (600pts / Ryjak Rules)

Sunday: Whatever HALO Landlubber is running

Any final concur or objections?

Sounds good to me. I will write up the Halo scenario probably this weekend, and coordinate with Ed next week to get it submitted.

I won't be available to game until Friday evening. I could make 5 pm for the DW game, no problem.

Good to hear on the 5PM time for Friday.

My internet's been down all weekend (seriously, Centurylink is the WORST) so I haven't registered events yet. First evening to allow it, it'll happen and times are locked in.

I just sent my information to the Haven staff for the Halo game. I'm also going to see about running a couple games of Firefly: The Boardgame (one scenario included in the game and one home-brewed scenario). I've requested either 11-3 or 12-4 on Sunday for Halo, and anytime on Saturday for the Firefly games.

Registration for running Events is still open even. For attending will be open a long while yet I believe.

Not sure of the Haven's added Greg's HALO event yet.
