Post by: Dakkar on August 26, 2015, 10:07:26 am
On Saturday, October 3rd, Gamer's Haven in Colorado Springs ( 5730 Academy Blvd N 80918) will host a Firestorm Patrol Fleet Tournament!

This is a chance for experienced players to try out a new Fleet, or for brand new players to learn to play in a fun and challenging environment! There's no variety of experience like a tournament!

Start Time: Arrive at 10, play by 10:30~!

Also, now a $5 fee towards additional Prizes!

Fleets should be no more than 650pts, and confirm to Patrol Fleet construction rules.
Pairings will be Swiss style, with random initial pairings.
Rounds will be 90 minutes.
Scenarios will be selected for each round.
Painting is highly encouraged.
Prizes will be available for top scoring players! (Waiting on official kit approval)

Please post any questions here!

I'll be the first...
Just for clarification you are talking 650 points within the patrol fleet restrictions in the fleet guide, not just a patrol fleet box -- correct?
Second, what size table are you planning on using 4x4 or 6x4?
Finally, how many rounds are you planning?

Thanks for setting cool stuff like this up  8)

650pts - if that's just a Patrol Fleet box, that's fine...

4x4 tables may be necessary, 6x4 if we have the space.

3 Rounds likely.

Just out of curiosity...why not the full 800 points allowed at the patrol fleet level?

Also, should we fold our October Denver Gamer's meetup into this event?

Most of the patrol fleet boxes sit at 500 to 550.
I just wanted to make sure, the naming conventions can be confusing.

650 will mean the games go relatively quick.

Becasue almost every Box set can come in at 650 without buying more.
800 requires further buying.

Sounds good to me!

Yeah, but...I can fit in another squadron of Spook Cruisers at 800 points, giving me 10 more spook torpedoes per turn...  ;D

Why do I have a mental image of you cackling and rubbing your hands together?? Over a steaming cauldron? (Maybe because Halloween is later this month...)

I'll bring my space mat, my asteroids, and the TA-4 Starport. My space mat is 44" wide and about 8 feet long, so we can spread it over two tables if need be, depending on game size.

I typed up a blurry account of my games at work today. Only took a few deployment pictures. Once I get those uploaded I'll post it.

This is a foggy recounting of the games that I played on Saturday. Told mostly from my perspective. People that were there or I played with, I apologize if I make stuff up (I didn't really take notes). Feel free to fact check me.

Game 1--Sorylians
Scenario was a "grab the salvage tokens from the debris fields" type deal with a squadron needing to be in the debris field to pick a token up.
(http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f5/Quickdraw1/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsiusddi24.jpeg) (http://s44.photobucket.com/user/Quickdraw1/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsiusddi24.jpeg.html)
I deployed my cruisers and carrier near the planet to benefit from a gravitational slingshot and my corvettes were positioned to shoot straight ahead into one debris field.
Turn 1
Corvettes move into the debris field, followed by the cruisers. My carrier group moves towards the second debris field and puts some damage on his cruisers.
Turn 2
The cruisers follow the corvettes into the debris field as the corvettes pick up a salvage token and put some damage on the battleship. The cruisers put some damage on the battleship and a frigate. The storyline battleship puts some damage on a cruiser and the carrier group puts damage on multiple cruisers, including the fighters. One squadron of two cruisers both have fold space ruptures.
Turn 3
The carrier group continues to put damage on the cruisers and takes a salvage token. The cruisers and corvettes continue to put damage on the battleship and the game is called.

Game 2--Tarakians
Scenario was to collect a spy probe and secondary was to destroy capital ships.
(http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f5/Quickdraw1/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsblrmkbka.jpeg) (http://s44.photobucket.com/user/Quickdraw1/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsblrmkbka.jpeg.html)
I deployed my corvettes and carrier group together directly away from the spy probe ehile my cruisers deployed farther away at an angle.
Turn 1
Corvettes, frigates, carrier, and cruisers trade fire. Enemy cruisers and Ryushi carrier take damage.
Turn 2
The cruisers and carrier put some damage on the battleship and cruisers.  Ryushi escort cruisers take damage.
One Ryushi cruiser has a critical core breach and takes out three Tarakians frigates, puts a damage on my other cruisers and destroys a Tarakians cruiser.
Turn 3
In the end my cruiser refuses to go down but the final Tarakians cruiser is destroyed clenching the win.

Game 3--RSN
Scenario was interesting. Tier 1s start on table with everything else coming from reserve on turn 2. Huge bonuses for killing enemy tier 1 while protecting your own.
(http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f5/Quickdraw1/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsunwm6mkn.jpeg) (http://s44.photobucket.com/user/Quickdraw1/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsunwm6mkn.jpeg.html)
Deployed near center of table behind a planetoid, RSN heavy cruisers deploy in open space near far corner.
Turn 1
Carrier group slingshot around planet and put multiple damage on heavy cruisers.
Turn 2
RSN cruisers deploy on opposite board edge to heavy cruisers behind Ryushi cruisers. Corvettes deploy directly in front of heavy cruisers. RSN frigates deploy at rear angles to carrier group.
RSN cruisers put damage on one Ryushi cruiser. RSN frigates destroy escort cruiser in one salvo. Ryushi cruisers, carrier, and corvettes completely mangle heavy cruisers.
Turn 3
Carrier and cruisers finish the heavy cruisers while the corvettes turn and kill multiple frigates.

That's an abridged version. Again, let me know if I missed something. Great games with good opponents.
I'll edit with photos in a minute.

Sounds like the Ryushi mopped things up pretty well.
