Heart of Leviathan (WWI Naval Combat)
« on: September 09, 2018, 04:39:55 pm »

Found this on Facebook the other day! This sounds like a really interesting f WWI naval combat game. The renders shown above are purported to be renders of what the miniatures are going to look like. If so, I really like the slightly exagerated look! Here is the advertising copy:

Quote
A tactical ship to ship engagement simulation set in World War One. Each player takes control of individual semi-historical WWI warships in an effort to reign supreme on the High Seas - er - game table... Choose your colors: The British Grand Fleet or the German High Seas Fleet. Can you command the Battle Squadrons as Jellico, Beatty, Scheer or Hipper did? Could you do better?

Battleships, Dreadnoughts, Battle Cruisers, Cruisers and more face off to pound their opponents into submission. You can equip your ships to take advantage of Leadership and technological advances – BUT – some refits can come at a cost... And be forewarned, your opponent has the same goal in mind...

Designed for two or more players to engage in a turn swapping fist fight on a 36" by 36" game table (or larger) that requires both planning and cunning. Do you close the range with your Leviathans in order to bring every gun to bear - or - do you stand off at arms length and rely on plunging fire from your heavy rifles to penetrate a lightly armored deck that can sink your opponent with one volley?

It's all up to you... Build your squadron to your own specifications for each engagement....
Will you be victorious or have to retire and report to the Admiralty as British Admiral Beatty did after the Battle of Jutland:
"There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today"

Not a lot of details yet, but I'm definitley interested in seeing where this goes. And the best part? No mentions of a Kickstarter (at least, not yet)!

Heart of Leviathan is now up for pre-order at a special discounted price! Image Studios is taking a formal pre-order route rather than running a Kickstarter campaign, so if you would like to show your support for an excellent quick-play naval game without all the headaches of Kickstarter, here is your chance!

I spoke with Walter at Image Studios, and he stated there are no plans for an international distributor at this time, due to the fact that they are keeping the production in-house to ensure quality and are not going the KS route. Probably the best bet to save on the shipping will be the 15% off preorder deal.

Is this a ship-v-ship game, similar to Sails of Glory?

Looks like it.  Looks like it is probably a dice-fest too.

The game seems tuned for 2-3 ships per side. Possibly more if you were to builds a list that spams cruisers. Think in terms of X-Wing or TANKS.

Not as many as, say, DW. With buffs, the most attack dice you can get to is 5 or 6 IIRC. Again, think X-Wing or TANKS.
