Nevermind, sorry, I found the part of the profile that lets you add more ships to the unit.

Dystopian Wars / Help converting my classic fleet
« on: June 17, 2022, 07:11:44 pm »
Hi all, been a long time.

I'm trying to get started with the new dystopian wars rules, using my spartan french battle group box.  Reading the orbat it doesn't look like I can form a battlefleet of more than 6 ships without proxying, is that correct?

I would love to see a fleet sized Honor Harrington book too.  I am just about finished the new book, and it is definitely one of the reasons I'm looking for a new space fleet game.

I looked into that when I first started reading the books, and as Dakkar said earlier, it is not a good system.  Dropfleet seems to have a lot to recommend it, and even if the rules prove bad the models will work for full thurst or 5150

Thanks.  I was under the impression dropfleet commander had gone under as well.  Been a while since I've watched BsG, did the Cylons have capital ships?

Are there any good alternatives to firestorm out there?

Adelaide, South Australia.

Currently I have X-Wing and Infinity (I know it's not a naval game), and I'm hoping to get into sails of glory in the near future.

Nice reviews, but it sounds like they'd play pretty much as I thought.  I was thinking a map based campaign, using Fighting Sail for naval battles and On the Seven Seas for landing parties.  It does sound like I could find better games to combine this way though.

At least a nod to the physics involved in space terain, eg. the way you could sling shot around planetoids in FSA, or the way movement is affected as you drop down the well in dropzone.

Will exploding dice keep going, or will there at least be a send off episode?

I have traded in my spartan models, not that I wouldn't love to keep playing spartan games, but I can only afford this hobby if I can build up slow.

Has anyone seen a historical/fantasy version of dropzone?

Edit: Maybe something like Fighting Sail and On the Seven Seas, not sure how either of these play?

General Discussion / Re: MBS Podcast Episode 22

Another great episode guys, and I'm glad to hear I'll be getting two podcasts a month now.  Just thought I'd put in a mention for Battletech too, since it has intergrated naval and ground rules.  I know the bigger focus is on the ground, but that's more a fluff thing, and it scales from grand strategy down to rpg too.

My best friend, the man who introduced me to miniatures actually, is moving close by at the end of the year.  While I prefer naval games, he prefers skirmish games, so a close tie in is the best chance for us to both enjoy a game.
