From the company's splash page, it looks like they will be launching a Kickstarter for the game in about a month.

Mmmm, might have to jump in on this one. Mike Tunēz is pretty passionate about sailing ships and the golden age of piracy, based on some of the interviews I've heard.

Here's a preview of what's coming in the starter set!

The KS is live, and already funded!

$69 US for the basic buy-in.

That was quick. I think they hit their funding goal in about 2 hours. Impressive, since they needed to get to $45k.

Dammit ... I don't need another irresistible KS...

Don't think of it as a Kickstarter. Think of it as an investment in the future of naval wargaming. :D
Dale, do you think this will get any traction with the historical players at the Haven? This is not the Napoleanic era--it's set at the beginning of the Age of Sail, so mid-17th century I think. Also, unlike Sails of Glory, it's geared more towards squadron combat than single-ship duels. Do you think that will appeal to the historical players there?

There's a heavy contingent for Blood and Plunder right now, so they might see this as awesome... or superfluous, since B&P has ship rules anyways. I don't think it cover this scale though, so it might be irresistible.
I'll ask what Troy thinks...

I'm looking at this again ... the stretch goals have really progressed (a naval mat included!) to the point where $149 backing is impossible to resist. In a vacuum of other naval games (and not counting new BFG rumors) this could be massively fun and relatively affordable for the cost.
-
I'm inching closer and closer to backing myself...
-
Aaaaand, I just backed it. Captain level. Need to do some historical reading on this period of naval combat before the game arrives...good thing I've got some time!
-
I verified that the Haven is backing for some copies (bling included) so I'll wait and get one next fall

Me as well ... I used to know what the ship's "rate" meant, but my historical sail knowledge has atrophied over the years.

I have backed this, and will be waiting (un)patiently for it to arrive. Also War Artisan has some paper ships from that era in 1:600 as well.

Funded! Wow, they raised about $200k with over 1300 backers. Lots of extra goodies coming too. This will be a nice little surprise on my doorstep next fall! (Hopefully they can deliver on time).
@Dakkar, glad to hear the Haven backed this as well. Looks like some good opportunities in this game for multi-player battles.
