Looking for Pictures and Artwork
« on: April 10, 2012, 04:26:28 pm »
Calling all of you digital artists photographers out there! I am pretty unskilled when it comes to graphics programs, so if anyone has a little time to make a Man Battlestations banner graphic, etc I would greatly appreciate the help! Likewise, if any of you have some cool naval war gaming pictures they would like to see used on the site somewhere, please let me know. I could definitely use pictures from various games to include in the slideshow on the main page!

Hey about this ancient topic - I'm not the best photographer, but feel free to pull any of the DW pictures off my blog and use them for MBS!  They are nice and high res on the blog.

What size should a banner graphic be? [pixels x pixels] -or- [# of Kbytes?]
1:1200 - One inch equals One Hundred feet...

Well Once again I feel like an Archeologist digging back to old posts.  But its bound to happen when you are waiting for plaster of Paris to dry and procrastinating on finishing up on the contest entry.  Oh well, The banners are 1000x400 and the Crest is 1868x2401 so they should not give you any issues when resizing.

These are basic and until I get PS back up again its what I have to work with.  If you want to use something just let me know and I can e-mail it to you as I don't trust imageshack's hosting to keep the files untainted.  I can see the crest PNG doesn't show up correct already.

The crest was just a little add on.  Every ship needs one so why not the site?
The last two are some of my PS work that I just felt like sharing.

BTW, I'll probably take yo up on the photo offer MajorMcNicol, if the offer still stands.

I find accuracy increases exponentially when more rounds are placed down range.

One last thing,
Noticed quite a few Bot/Spam Bunnies on the member list.  These inundated my msg board for a time till I got a strong/ dual Captcha on the registration part.  You may want to look into it to save a crap ton of time removing them.

Yeah, I've got the Stopforumspam.com app running in the background here that keeps the spammers to a dull roar. While some can still join, they are prevented from clogging the place up with spam posts.

Took me a couple of weeks to get back around to it, but it is done! The banners are now all rotating, between the 3 that Stitch made and my original one ;).

Thanks! BTW, the way the banners are set up, I can basically have an unlimted number to cycle through. So, if anyone else would like to submit one, feel free to do so! I'm thinking of making a seperate thread for just that purpose, if anyone is interested.

Ruckdog, a suggestion, use only one banner on the blog to help identify the site. Also anything in particular you'd like to see?  With my work schedual leveling out, I'll be Open to doing sigs in the coming weeks.

Excellent suggestion, Stitch. I would agree with having one "true" banner that is used for the blog, the site's front page, and promotional items like posters, flyers, business cards, and such. What I like about the current one is that it is distinctive, easy to read, and "scales" well for those different applications (though a USN General Alarm lever might be a bit too obscure of a reference!). I don't have a real clear vision of what might replace it; I would like to keep it fairly simple so that it will look good when shrunk down and/or printed in black and white. I would also like to incorporate the different aspects of naval gaming (space, historical, fantasy) in some way. Not very much to go on, I know! As for the forum banners, as a sub guy I'd love to see a submarine related one ;).

Alright, I'll think on it some and see what I come up with.  Don't know about the sub thing...sounds like the dark side to me! :P
Shouldn't be a problem.
