The Shipyard / Sorylian cruiser engine conversion. (Firestorm Armada)
« on: January 19, 2015, 12:11:48 am »
So I'm not a big fan of the drop off at the top and bottom of the Sorylian cruisers near the engines and I have a bunch of these bits that I really don't want to magnetize for cruisers or heavys. So enter the xacto knife and superglue...

Not the greatest pics, but they should do to get the point across. Anyway what do we think, do I have a hit or a miss here? Thanks for your input!

For reference here are the Heavy cruiser, cruiser, and battleship from the rear so you can see what they normally look like:

And another shot of the cruiser so you can see the dropoff where I added the engine pieces.

Firestorm Armada / New Firestorm releases for February.
« on: January 16, 2015, 12:20:49 am »
Alright big pictures of the new stuff! First off, shout out to Firebase Delta for posting these on Facebook so I could conveniently link them up here. Throw them a like if it pleases ya.

I think everyone has clued in that I have a love for the Oroshan ;) so ya, Awesome stuff here! Also some RSN which I've never been a fan of, but them seem to be super popular. The Oroshan battlecarrier... Ya I'm not a big fan of the render... it's awfully... flat. Hopefully the 3D versions look much better! As for the escorts I love them! I really hope they're not to scale in the picture though (it doesn't look like they are seeing as the SRS tokens are pretty fraking big in the pic too). I know that the scales have swelled a bit recently, but with the cruisers and presumably the frigates remaining the same size it wouldn't do too well to have escorts that are too big. Really cool doughnut look going on though and I love how the whole fleet is tying back together with each other now that there are a few more designs coming out.

RSN are pretty much more of the same, but they are all resin now! It looks like they tried to keep them as close to the current models as they could which is nice for those that have them already, but I don't really know enough about them to say too much more then that.

Firestorm Armada / Storm Zone: Return of the Overseers
« on: December 14, 2014, 10:41:38 pm »
The Battle for Proteus Prime escalates as the Aquan Prime sends a fleet of their newest ships to intercept the Directorate forces assaulting the planet. So the newest two player starter set has been announced by Spartan for Firestorm Armada!

Quote
When the leaders of the Aquan Prime heard of the assault of Proteus Prime by Directorate forces they were gripped with fear. The ancient texts told of a great danger hidden in the planet, an ancient force that could destroy the entire galaxy.

In response the latest fleet of Aquan starships was sent to intercept and destroy the Directorate fleet orbiting the planet. An epic battle is taking place above the planet of Proteus Prime - so gather your forces Commanders it is time for war!

1 Anarchist Class Battleship
2 Turmoil Class R&D Cruisers
2 Annihilation Class Gunships
4 Liquidator Class Frigates
2 Large SRS Tokens
2 Small SRS Tokens

1 Oannes Class Heavy Carrier
2 Sulis Class Heavy Cruisers
2 Shiva Class Gunships
4 Chimaera Class Frigates
2 Large SRS Tokens
2 Small SRS Tokens

1 multi-part resin and acrylic Dimensional Gate
1 Firestorm Armada 2.0 Rulebook
3 Token & Template Sheets
2 Asteroid Sheets
2 Fast Play Sheets
2 Tactical Action Card Decks
24 Dice
1 Mission Booklet

Lots of new ships for both factions with the Aquans getting a new heavy carrier (takes a standard carrier space but sits in size between a standard carrier and a battleship/battlecarrier), gunship, and the new heavy cruiser which adds the ability to redirect friendly beam attacks. The Directorate get a brand new battleship type (it's...  ok, not my style really but ok), gunship again, and a new R&D cruiser featuring an experimental gravity weapon. Also a new terrain piece and lots of gribbly bits! This is looking like a lot of fun!

The Shipyard / Oroshan wip
« on: September 09, 2014, 12:37:40 am »
Well finally getting around to slapping some paint on the Armageddon. Same basics as with my Slayers from over a year ago  :-X. Dirty yellow hull with gunmetal trim and purple, lots of purple. Orangish yellow engines and glow... sort of.

My work so far on the rear engines and under wing.... Ya I'm going to call those engines too (Star Trek Impulse style...?) , very light glow cast over the hull (not really noticeable) and the gunmetal areas (bit more noticeable, but still not by much). You can also see my new attempt at the purple glow on the very rear engines/exhaust?, I'm much happier with this then on the Slayer's front "grills?". I'm also practicing my blending which can be seen on the purple accent hull stripes.

The front shot you can see I'm still working on how to get the blend down on the front hull accent panels and the 'gunmetal' could use a bit more highlighting and touch up. You can also see I've done the glass domes in red, similar to the sensors on the front of the Slayers.  Once I get all of that sorted I just need to figure out my writing style for them and I'm going to try and free hand their logo in that gaping circle indention behind the forward towers.

Space Naval Games / Gothicomp 2014
« on: June 08, 2014, 12:56:43 am »
Hey folks, Gothicomp is back again and taking submissions through August 31. With the demise of the Specialist Games range entry has been extended to all manufacturers also. Any conversions are also judged separately so theres a great opportunity to show off your modeling skills. It would be awesome if anyone entering could hook us up with some pics in the showcase here too! Thanks everyone!

The Showcase / Firestorm Armada Directorate
« on: April 27, 2014, 12:45:01 pm »

Fleet overview.

Fleet flagship "Sanctuary" an early Overseer class carrier. The current replacement is the Dominance.

"Nightmare" and "Bastion". These Nemesis class destroyers are both the lead vessels of their squadrons which also include the "Monitor" and "Javelin".

"Liberty", "Vigilant", and "Guardian" are the backbone cruiser squad composed of a pair of early Executioner class cruisers lead by an early Justice class heavy cruiser. Their current replacements are the Abraxas and Subjugator.

Unnamed the Hostility class drones fill a light support role in the fleet.

News and Rumors / Firestorm Armada 2.0
« on: August 16, 2013, 11:41:12 pm »
So 2.0 has been announced and is conveniently scheduled to release sometime before Christmas.

http://www.spartangames.co.uk/a-big-bang

New core rule book with expanded rules, new cards, more terrain, new scenarios and updated victory conditions. There's also going to be new Alliance and League books with new fleet building rules.

To add to this a new (MK3?) set of core ships will be released along with new starter boxes for each of the core fleets and Neil has stated they will be fleshing out the Alliance and Marauder fleet so each race will be able to field a fleet on their own!

If that isn't enough goodies, ok well its never enough!, Spartan is releasing the rest of the core races for Planetfall and they're going to be moving to the mainstream distribution chain. To top it off it looks like they're releasing a terrain line for it and building a tie in for games of FA and PF.

So it looks like there is going to be a lot of great stuff coming out soon and this is all on top of the awesome looking new Alliance fleets too!

There are a couple threads on this over on the Spartan Community with more info.

Firestorm Armada / Oroshan Marauders
« on: June 26, 2013, 11:14:30 pm »
Ok so I snapped a couple quick shots of my Slayers I finished today, nothing fancy I just tried to stick close to the Spartan scheme. I did dirty up the look a bit more though. Being a fleet based race I don't see them having much down time for basics like repainting .

I wanted to add a little bit more color here so I painted the prow gun/sensor/pointy bitz in a nice glassy red color.

I went with the Spartan style on the engines too although I tried to break up the orange/yellow by blocking the engine area out in grey.

Dystopian Wars / How do the different factions play?
« on: April 20, 2012, 07:20:46 pm »
Well as the title says how do they all play? I like some of the models and would like to paint some but I would like an idea of their play styles strengths weaknesses etc before I buy any (incase they actually ever get played lol). Thanks!
