« on: January 13, 2015, 02:18:26 pm »
Hello everyone. I go by Ulric online but in real life John. I Have been directed here by Dalekunz. I am playing Firestorm as well as its new ground fighting game. Mostly focusing on the ZL and Rense System Navy. Also I am from Colorado Springs area.

Welcome aboard Ulric! Glad to have another RSN admiral here at ManBattlestations. Maybe we can discuss tactics and strategies at some point.

Several of us on this forum play both in Denver and the Springs. Besides Firestorm and Planetfall, are there any other games you're in to? We've got a pretty robust Dystopian Wars player base here as well.

Saddly no other Spartan Games. I try to limit myself to only 2 or 3 game systems at a time. Used to play BFG and B5, but after several years in the military I have lost those models.

We'll need to put both of your RSN fleets together with my Dindrenzi sometime, and work out tactics versus the dirty Terran usurpers and their alien puppet masters. ;-) :-)

Here's my suggested 1000pt force for RSN. I used to like mixing Spooks with a Cerebus, but the new weapon loads don't synergize. But the Spooks work GREAT with an Argus! And the Argus is too good not to use!

Spectre Battleship w/ Interceptors      210
- 1" turn limit, +2 AP, Special Forces      20
- One Siren Escort      25

Argus Carrier (8 Wings) - All Bombers      160
+ 4 Wings      25
-  Quick Launch      5
- Torp Spook      5
- 2x Spook Cruiser escort      140

3x Spook Cruisers      210
         800
Bulwark Frigates x4      100
Bulwark Frigates x4      100

Total = 1000pts

Overall strategy - between spooked Torps and BB Kinetics, keep a focused barrage (with Spooks cloaked) for 2 turns while enemy approaches. He'll probably be too eager to get to you, and that's the trap!
Run Frigates up the flanks - he'll either divert too much to chase them or ignore them.
Once he closes under 30" but over 20", decloak and hammer with the two Spook groups. 10 die of spooked Torps plus 16 odd dice of beams should put on a real hurt if maintenance of aim is applied.
And all this time, Frigates are eating his frigates, or picking at weaknesses along with the BB's long range firepower.
Also, the BB's Interceptors are all but making you immune to his Torps and such. (The interceptor PD bubble is an awesome thing)
Then, when they close under 20", Quick Launch likely puts them in the Argus' 18" Bomber Envelope. Your BB Interceptors should take out his screen, and no capital ship can easily absorb two 6-count Bomber runs!
Plus, if he's really close, get the BB in for knife work - a Special forces Boarding action is nothing to ignore!

The 800pt version, you drop the Spook escorts for the carrier, the Siren Escort on the BB, and the extra Wings on the Carrier. Tweak Carrier and BB to suit.

To hit 1200pts for the last event scenario, I reccommend adding a pair of Cerberus Heavy Cruisers with Torpedo Spook. Or squeeze in 3 more Spook Cruisers. :-)

Or I could add in 2 Destroyers dale. Ambush 2 is nasty with its spook torps and PResion beams. Also they have Stealth systems.

Yeah, I considered Destroyers, but two of them doesn't have the same throw-weight as the more expensive 3-strong squadron. They could be ffective Cruiser hunters though, and just the idea of a good Ambush position could beused to disrupt enemy plans.

Welcome to Man Battlestations and the CO group.  The RSN has beat me once, therefore I do not like them.  Although I do like my Banshee!

By the way John, we've discussed playing some BFG and B5Wars, among other games.  Some of us have several fleets, so there are plenty to go around if you're interested in playing them again.
