halo fleet battles price query
« on: August 09, 2018, 09:25:19 pm »
I am sorry to say that I got bit by the halo fleet battles bug long after Spartan Games went belly up and all the products were pulled from hobby shop shelves. I was wondering if some one here could tell the prices of some box sets as they were on the hobby shelves.
Items such as:

UNSC Autumn box set
UNSC Halcyron box set
UNSC Halberd box set
Covenant APD escort ship box set

I thank you in advance for your help. I have only seen the UNSC ship on Shapeways and the prices seem way over priced so I was wondering what Spartan had them for back in the day.

Welp, I dug through my email inbox, and I didn't find anything that listed the prices of the ships you are asking about; all the old Spartan adverts had was a (now dead) link to their webstore. Landlubber can probably help you out though, as I'm sure he's purchased most, if not all, of the sets you have on your list. If I had to guess, though, I suspect that the box sets were probably in the realm of $40, give or take $10, based on similar box sets I bought direct from Spartan.

Do  you have some links to the ships you were looking at on Shapeways? I'm curious to see what their pricing was. TBH, the cost of Shapeways seems to be going up, to the point where it's hard to make an economic case for going with minis from there unless its for something like HFB where there is very little to no stock still available.

on shapeways I typed in Halo fleet battles UNSC ships and up popped a few. Some stated they were fleet battles scale and one guy who is very pricey does not list the scale of his ships. Covenant was only three ships and two are FB scale. Hope that helps you? I did purchase some strident frigates from a guy named Young ($5.00 a ship and cast in clear plastic) that are great sculpts. I also picked up from him a Poseidon and Vindication from him ($5.00 & $14.00) sculpted in clear plastic. From another guy named Burples I picked up in soft white plastic a Valiant ($9.00) and a Covenant heavy destroyer ($16.00) Great sculpts. Hope that helps.

Sorry for the late reply here, been out of the loop for a bit.

Of the ships you mentioned, the only one I can remember the price for was the UNSC Autumn-class boxed set. It was $30 before tax if my memory is correct, and it came with one ship, several overlays, and three Pelican models with flight stands and bases (and of course the acrylic base for the cruiser itself). It wasn't cheap, that's for sure.

I'll second what Ruckdog said in the other thread...both Halo Fleet Battles and Halo Ground Command are living on thru member groups on Facebook. Some of those members are making and selling models for both games (3D printing). I've purchased a few of the Ground Command models and the quality is superb--as good as, if not better than, the originals from Spartan. I've not purchased any ships for Fleet Battles (I've got most of what I need), but the pictures and feedback being posted in the Facebook group are very positive; people seem to be happy with what they're getting from the folks that are making these ships on their own.

Bottom line, if you're interested in keeping up with those two games, I highly recommend joining Facebook. That's where the community "landed" (for lack of a better term) when Spartan closed its doors last summer.
