The Showcase / Re: The Painting Year in Review--2017
« on: January 01, 2018, 10:01:30 am »
Some great looking stuff in here - fleets are looking really cool Landlubber and Ruckdog! Afraid I can't seem to see your photo Easy E :(

My year has ended up being surprisingly productive - only when looking back at the year did I actually realise how much I'd got painted:

(not pictured is my small amount of Firestorm Armada progress - escorts for Hawker Industries and the Terran Alliance).

Here's to more painting in 2018 :)

The Showcase / Carrots' Fleets - Prussians, Danes and Poles!
« on: October 29, 2017, 07:40:42 am »
Hello all.

It's been a few years since I first discovered the weird and wonderful world of Dystopian Wars. In that time I have been tempted to start nearly every fleet under the sun, but have fortunately managed to restrict myself to just three - The Prussian Empire, The Kingdom of Denmark, and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. I'll be starting up a WiP thread at some point t show off future progress, but for now I wanted to share the fleets as they currently are.

Just to be up front with how I'm planning for this to work, I started up a blog about a month ago to collate all my hobbying stuff in one place, rather than having multiple project logs on different forums. For ease, to save me reposting the same photos everywhere, and to make this thread a bit less long, I will be posting a few photos in here as a taster, and then linking to my blog where I'll have more photos. I hope this approach is ok - please let me know if not.

Anyway, without further ado, onto some photos.

The Prussian Empire first:

Elbe Class Fleet Carrier

Eider Mk2 Class Battleship

Havel Class Light Carriers

Donnerfaust Class Support Cruisers

The Kingdom of Denmark:

Ragnarok Class Pocket Battleships

Skagerrak Class Gunships

Korsor Class Corvettes

bThe Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth:

Triglav Assault Carrier:

Dazbog Pocket Battleship:

Bagiennik Heavy Frigates:

I have something of a backlog for each of these fleets that needs clearing. For the Prussians I have some kickstarter ships to paint, for the Danes I have the support box, and for the Poles I have the aerial box. WiP thread for these will be up at some point.

Comments and criticisms always thoroughly appreciated - thanks for looking!

Dystopian Wars / Re: Confused about SAS attacks and carrier actions

For the bombing run with dive bombers they would get shot at with AA before releasing their bombs. If it were a torpedo bomber outside of the 4 inch AA range then they wouldn't get shot.

I realise this may be a slightly stupid question but where in the rules does it say this? It's how I've always played it, but I've never been able to see where in the book it says when you are able to make defensive attacks - it doesn't seem to be in the defensive ordnance section!

Fantastic looking stuff - nice vibrant colour scheme well executed. The decals and other little details on the battleship are a really nice touch.

Dystopian Wars / Re: 2.5 Orbat known issues

Not sure if this is intentional or not, but both the Elbe and the Blucher are now listed as large and not massive. For a Dreadnought and a carrier built on a Dreadnought hull, that doesn't make sense to me!

Also the listing of the Donnerfaust Speers as primary is a minor point as well.

Roll Call / Not another one!

Afternoon all.

Another survivor of the wreckage of the Spartan forums, predominantly responsible for lurking and starting abortive project logs.

While recent news makes things somewhat less dramatic, this still feels like a great community to join - looking forward to getting involved and watching the resurrection of Firestorm Armada and Dystopian Wars.
