Hello Ruckdog
I like your idea, I will give it a try.  If you are willing to do a mockup that would be great, we can compare and contrast both of the overlays we develop.  Maybe in the future, we can develop a custom overlay template for the community.  I do not know much about the firestorm community, but I know that Halo fleet battles and Firestorm share similar game engines, I wonder if the firestorm community has any custom overloay templates, I will investigate and see what I can come up with.
thanks, Patrick

I would like to make some custom element overlays.  Do anyone have any experience with making them?  I was think of buying some black card stock and using some bright sharpie marks to add the ship stats and arcs of sight and so on.  However, I think they will end up looking terrible compared to the official overlays.  So I was going to make a new set of my terrible looking overlays for all my ships.  This way my entire fleet will look equally terrible.

Halo: Fleet Battles / house rules for UNSC element construction
« on: May 26, 2017, 11:07:02 am »
Hello
I have been analyzing the UNSC ship element statistic cards and I feel they are incomplete.  I would like more options when constructing elements.  I have made some house rules that will allow me the ability to construct as many different elements from as few distinct ships elements as possible.  These ideas are intended to increase fleet variety when playing in the garage with friends.

My first proposed house rule is to make the shield wall, reinforced ship, and combat ship into standard elements.  These elements would have no special rules associated with them as standard elements  This would allow for many different elements to be constructed from the Fall of Reach Starter Set.

After Looking at the Marathon and Orion elements in some detail, I have build my own UNSC design philosophy based off of those two ships.  My design takes all the Capital Ship Elements available in the free pdf UNSC ship element statistic cards and builds from that basis.

My UNSC design philosophy

Ship Element (Medium or Large Capital Element)

↓Upgrade to a Supported Ship Element (Medium or Large Capital Element), contains one Capital ship element and one Paris Frigate on one element base: cost 15 points and +1 Build Rating

Supported Ship Element (+1 to first damage track, +1 to security detail, +1 point defense, +1 MAC dice, and +1 Missile Battery dice)

↓Upgraded to a Reinforced Ship Element (Medium or Large Capital Element), contains one Capital ship element and two Paris Frigates on one element base: cost 25 points

Reinforced Ship Element (+1 to last damage track, +1 point defense, +1 MAC dice and +2 Missile Battery dice)

↓Upgraded to a Combat Ship Element (Medium Element only), contains one Capital ship element and three Paris Frigates on one element base: cost 25 points and +1 Build Rating

Combat Ship Element (+1 to middle damage track, +1 to security detail, +1 Titanium Armor, +1 MAC dice, and +2 Missile Battery dice)

Costs and upgrades are cumulative: For example, the cost of upgrading a ship element to a Combat ship element would be 65 points and +2 Build Rating.  A Combat ship element would have + 1 to the first, middle, and last damage track, +2 security detail, +2 point defense,+1 Titanium Armor, +3 MAC dice and +5 Missile Battery Dice.

Ship Element (Medium or Large Capital Ship Element)

↓Upgrade to a Escorted Ship Element (Medium or Large Capital Element), contains one Capital ship element and one Halberd Destroyer on one element base: cost 30 points and +1 Build Rating

Escorted Ship Element (+1 to first damage track, +1 boarding craft, +1 to security detail, +1 titanium armor, +2 MAC dice)

↓Upgraded to a Defended Ship Element (Medium or Large Capital Element), contains one Capital ship element and two Halberd Destroyers on one element base: cost 30 points

Defended Ship Element (+1 to last damage track, +1 to security detail, +1 titanium armor, +2 MAC dice and + 1 Missile Battery dice)

Costs and upgrades are cumulative: For example, the cost of upgrading a ship element to a Defended ship element would be 60 points and +1 Build Rating.  A Defended ship element would have + 1 to the first and last damage tracks, +1 boarding craft, +2 security detail, +2 titanium armor, +4 MAC dice, and +1 Missile Battery dice.

What do you all think?
thanks, Patrick

Roll Call / Hello from Dayton Ohio

Hello
I have enjoyed the man battlestations podcast for sometime now.  I recently purchased the Halo Fleet Battles Fall of Reach starter set, with that purchase I decided it was time that I join the forum.

Hello
I recently purchased the fall of reach start set and will be expanding both the UNSC and Covenant fleets in a month or two.  For the UNSC, I have decided I want the Super MAC orbital defense platforms.  I really enjoy the Super MAC models.  For the covenant I am thinking about the CPV heavy destoryer or the SDC support vessel.  I like the CPV models a little more.  The narrative behind the SDC support ship, that of a hunting preserve for high-ranking elite warriors is also compelling.  The SDC support ship at 95 points gives the covenant access to a cheap capital element, which is also appealing.  After I purchase a capital element for each faction, I plan on purchasing the ADP Escorts and Halberd Destroyer in September.  Does anyone have any experience with the CPV heavy destroyer and/or the SDC support ship?
