General Discussion / Re: Obscure Games

I'll add in two obscure naval games.

First Ram Speed my Metagaming which I believe came out in the 80's. Not the greatest game in the world, but one of the first to cover naval battles in the ancient world.

Second, is the first space naval game that I played which is Full Thrust. This game came out I believe in the 90's with rule books and a line of miniauters by Ground Zero Games. I played it quite a bit back then. There is a local person who runs Full Thrust games at San Francisco Bay area conventions, so I still get in one or two games a year. The game is fairly simple and fun. There was even rules for the Babylon 5 setting. One version of the rules included semi-Newtonian movement, which I've always felt is needed for space games.

I have just finished listening to the edisode and enjoyed the discussion about movies. I'm glad that one of my all time favorite movies, Captain and Commander, was mentioned. I am going to look up Battleship, which at the time that it was in the theaters I dismissed outright thlnking that it sounded completly silly.

Another movie that I would recommend is Admiral, orginal title Michiel de Ruyter. This is a Dutch movie which is set when the Dutch were a major navel power in the 17th century. Michiel de Ruyter was the great Dutch admiral and the movie covers his battles with the British. There are some great battle scenes, including one where we get to see what happens when part of the fleet does not follow orders.

Hi,

I'm tomgr in the San Francisco Bay area. I have been playing wargames for many years and more recently been enjoying naval games. I currently play X-Wings, and Sails of Glory. I have recently picked up the Jutland set from Topside Minis, now to put on some movies and put the ship stickers on the blocks.
